Just taking into account the name photochest I think it sounds better than Snapfish, Photobucket, Shutterfly, or Flickr.. If you could come up with an innovative business model (the market is pretty saturated) and funding and develop a service around image storage etc..I think you would be on to a winner.
I think the name by itself has value too if you want to just flip it to another domainer, although how much, I don't know.
Put it up for auction on Sedo?

Greetings,

Your domain has a nice ring to it, I would value it at $200.

Lol, looks like the owner of the other domain lives in Mountain View, CA in a $1M+ home, he could have paid more.

Congrats on the sale! You not only got the price you wanted, but also a nice, quick profit in return.

he could have paid more.

Perhaps, but perhaps that's his limit on a name in his mind he doesnt need that bad. Perhaps he lives in his parent's home, rents, underwater in mortgage. You never know the whole story other than your desire to roll this name on someone and move on to the next project.

You have to seize every opportunity, the guy is a wedding photographer, he uses the domain for his business, its small thinking like this, that keeps people from being successful, $100 here and there is simply eaten by renewal fees, you can't flip every name, no matter how good some are, cost of doing business... Different mentalities to business models I guess...

You bring up valid points and indeed there potentially could have been room for bartering under different circumstances. However, bear in mind the fact OP did not receive the offer until the name was listed on SEDO, in a fixed price format. Additionally, one has to assume if the buyer wanted the name so badly and was willing to pay so much more as you suggest, he most likely would have approached the prior owner with an unbeatable offer, rather than waiting for the name to drop just a few days ago.

IMO, OP did in fact seize the only opportunity he was probably going to get with this name [based upon the name history], and in the process made a nice profit from a few bucks he spent only days ago. A successful transaction overall.
:imho:

Actually OP did not receive an offer until he emailed the owner of the competing site, and tipped him off to it, the owner typing in the domain was redirected to sedo, which is a trustworthy transactor of domains, and bought it at the OP BIN price, had he chosen make an offer, he probably could have gotten $250-$500 very easily. OP had just reg'd it and if they are happy with the return, that is great for them, they spent their time registering it. Maybe if it wasn't redirected to sedo, the buyer would not want to do business with some random email, after sedo profits, the buyer netted $83, and the domain was decent. I considered paying the OP $150, but I saw it was sold via sedo.

OP had a learning experience, end result was to get a bid and push it into auction, I agree good sale for just starting out.
