I could think about alternate usages as in whatis.in/Space , whatis.in/Cigarettes etc but i think whatis.in should sell by itself ...
does this TLD have any value compared to the .com/.net version.
Are there legal implications (whatis.com) especially because it is a generic term ...

You mentioned a nice development idea, however I don't think it is worth a lot without development, probably only LOw $xx resale value, high $xx if you find a really really motivated buyer. Good Luck

While whatis is valuble because of the overture (I haven't done a detailed appraisal check yet), I can tell you whatever value I might come up with through my RVER method, it would be cut 90% by the TLD. IMHO only .COM, .NET and .ORG have serious value to them while .BIZ, .INFO, and .CC have minor positive value to them, everything else almost always IMHO if not used correctly with the TLD will damage your name. Think of the TLD as your third keyword, most other TLD's other then the positive ones I mentioned have to use one word with the TLD making sence of that word to make it worth anything. I'm going to say low $$ for now. Let me know if you want a more detailed appraisal, maybe I'll come to more starteling conclusions through research, who knows =P.

this seems like one you'd want to develop yourself - it's your idea!!! Why let someone take it from you for $100 when you could build it into something great?

It was more as a proof of concept along with the value for the domain ..
its definitely on my list of projects in the next year ...
