Your website design is missing the professional look. I feel that content and google ads were placed on the fly. Let us take it step by step, and try together to improve your site design.

Site Title
My first point is adding a nice title to your head section. Your site is actually missing the title which appeas in browser. The word "Home" can't serve as a title that describes your site much better. So please do one.

Header
You only used a font to come up with the logo. I would really suggest creating a unique logo, which is aligned to the left of the page. Let us say add some fancy image/icon/logo that describes your site with the logo font.

Another suggestion would be removing the gradient since your remaining site is almost based on white only background. I would look for gradient background alternatives.

What about using borders?

Content

Lastly, your content lack management. You should do some work to seperate the search form, from main sections, from GoogleAdsense. One method to get over this is probably using borders. Or dividers between your content sections. Let the user know that your site well arranged.

Overall Style and Colors

One last thing, your site really seek a color combination. Some catchy look, I have to remember your site.. from the first visit. The unique user is so important to a site, get his attention, or he will never visit again.

but...but...i haven't said anything,...yet! :hehe:

Indeed, i'm a stickler for the almighty FavIcon that most of us neglect.
I like the general idea and presentation with all the icons, yet the adsense placement is overpowering your content.
I'd consider placing the adsense box on the bottom or removing it all together and let it resurface "inside" each topic.
Everything else, from boarders to a more "apple" like 2.0 effect has already been mentioned by Porte :tu:

thanks a lot any reccomendations for somewere to design a logo? im going to take the adsense of the home page and try and look for a combanation of colours, will post again once ive done this!

Absolutely, NamePros has quite some very skilled designers. Make a contest out of it and decide how much you want to offer the winner and set the amount as winning price when you post the actual contest.
