Hi - I'm a newbie at web design and this is my first solo shot at a blog site.

While there is not much there yet, I hope to monitize this site in the coming days through a number of different techniques including Adsense or a like service.

Thanks for the feedback. The theme I chose specifically for it's advertising extensibility. It's one of the few wordpress themes that are "adsense ready." I will work with the colors a bit though. Thanks again for your input.

OK. It's unanimous... everyone HATES the colors, but likes the content.

What colors would you use instead?

For the banner / header?
For the left col?
For the center col?
For the right col?
For the footer?

I have plenty of flexibility and I'm open to your ideas.

Color Schemes

Try looking Here. This is a very useful tool for picking out color schemes for your work.

Just click the "Load a random blend!" link just above the 5 black squares and it will generate a color scheme. Don't like it? Click again for a new one.

i agree the colors don´t fit, but thats something you are working on, so, my question, what makes this theme adsense ready ?

I tried lots of wordpress themes until I finally found one that suited my needs best for adsense, google search and chitika. Just curious

The major difference between this and other themes is the way adsense or any advertising program's links can be implemented. It's done through the use of include files. Instead of pasting the Java Script code into multiple php files, you instead paste it once into the appropriate adsense_location.php file. That adsense_location.php is then included into all the other appropriate php files. It's pretty nifty how it's done, but certainly repeatable in other themes. The CSS supports all of it.

Unfortunately, the theme author only did it for the left column. I ended up hardcoding the links elsewhere, but I plan on returning and making them includes too.

thanks I did not know this existed, bookmarked it. You are right, I had to edit the sidebar.php and single.php and add the adsense code this way. I tried the adsense plugins but I found out soon that those are not that good. The reason is simple that you can only add them to posts.

I stick with my system but will keep yours in the back of my head

I'm ok with one ad on the left side, but you don't need to repeat another ad for every single article you post. I would do something about the banner as well, currently it looks like a cheap ad for another website.

Apart from all that I think the site is fairly decent, minus the occasional html errors. Eg, use a / at the end of image tags: <img src="image.gif" />

I think overall its too bland, but...

While there is not much there yet...

We'll let it go until there is more there. I'll be happy to revew it in this thread when there is more content there.
