Hi. I came up with a company name and registered it with Companies House here in the UK. I registered the domains mentioned. Also I have email address ending in kalmlite.com.

I was thinking about making mood lighting at the time I came up with my company name. The company has never traded, dormant in fact since registered. I never set up a website.

Anyway, I'm thinking whether to sell the name.

What do folks think about the value of the domains I have? Should I hang on to them? Thanks.

When I was thinking up the name for my lighting products firm, I thought I needed a name that was totally unique, so that when a search was done it came at the top of the search engine results list. Kalmlite is a unique word and thought I'd come up with something good. Shortly after I registered my domain name I got an email from someone, who was intersted in buying the name. I think he bought and sold domain names. I don't have that email now, so don't know who it was. So, I've always wondered why someone thought it was worth buying.

Okay, I now see the situation:

What got me thinking about the value of the domain was an email from:

"Emmett Hodges,
Chief Executive Officer
PHR Software"

Who emailed:

"We've have visited several online auctions. We are very interested in your domain name kalmlite.com.

Just email me your price and we will consider it.

Of course, domain reselling is not a main direction of our business (we develop software). But domain aftermarket is hot now, so we are always interested in domain names.

Looking forward to do business with you."

But, that email was a sort of scam, I believe.

Sorry to hear you were contacted by a scammer - I hope you didn't get burnt by them.

I like your idea and think it would work with the name you have. I can't realistically see any value in the name without the development of a product, unless you happened upon an end user that wanted that exact name for their product - can't see that as likely to happen though.

Hi. I was going to design and manufacture lighting, mood lighting actually, and I created the word KALMLITE. It's a unique word. I even went so far as to register as a private limited company but never actually traded (company was dormant). I still hold kalmlite.co.uk, kalmlite.com and kalmlite.org.

When I got that email, it naturally got me thinking if I had some value in the domain name.

Whatever you were planning to do with the name has nothing to add to the value of a name, until you actually do it.

As for the price of the domain, I don't think it'll be worth much, unless you manage to find somebody (or somebody finds you) who wants that very specific name.
