Hey everybody,

I was wondering, if a site exists that holds #1 ranking with Google for two very popular keywords, would it be a BAD or GOOD idea to register a domain name similar to it?

In other words, is it a PRO or CON in deciding whether or not to register a name if a similar name is already registered with great search engine success? *** would it be easier or harder to find a buyer for the name if the buyer knew a similar site was being used with great search engine success? I would imagine it would be easier to sell since another has already achieved success with it, but I'm new to the game and don't wish to make too many rookie mistakes.

Here's an example (not names I had in mind, just an example),

www.annualcreditreport.com (this being the name I would mimic)

www.fastcreditreport.com (this being the name I would register.. obviously already reg)

Im not sure I understand your question. The examples you gave are 3 words each. And different words.

If the keywords are very popular this usually means they are also very competitive. Try googling the keyword(s) you are interested in quotations and see how many results come up first.

for example, "annual credit report"

This is the result

About 379,000 results (0.14 seconds)

This is a fairly competitive keyword. If you want to dominate the keyword right away look for words under 100k.

It doesnt matter if google has similar websites ranking already as long as you build yours better, more unique helpful content, and most importantly more quality backlinks.

I don’t see it giving any extra value to the domain, maybe even less as you have a strong competitor to beat.

I think keyword domains are helpful in ranking for non-competitive terms. When you get into highly competitive terms the value of keywords is invisible compared to the number and quality of inbound links.
