I'm not a big gamer, but I've been eyeing the PS3. It's a bit pricey, but I wanted to get other's feedback about it before I take the plunge.

Anyone played one? How did you like it?

Nice looking system, bulky as shit it looks like the old xbox.. The games are horrible currently as they don't use 1/10th of what it can do. There is a few nice features other than that it is just a xBox 360 with some addons. Blu-Ray is a hunk of garbage right now because the discs cost 10 times more than a DVD and movies are being compressed to DVD and than decompressed to Blu-Ray which actually don't make blu-ray any better than DVD except for the file size is bigger.

Personally I would get a xBox 360 and a Wii if you want a gaming system. If you want another computer, get a PS3..

All I share is my experience playing Resistance fall of man at a friends house. It was a very fun game. Nice to look at and fun to play. Outside of that....I can't say. The fact that you do get a blu-ray player with the system does add a certain value to it. If you were to get a stand alone blu-ray, you'd pay more for it. Also, Blu-ray does seem to be the standard that alot of the movie studios are moving to last time I heard.

That's all I can say.

You can always get a new computer or upgrade it and play warcraft, age of empires, halo, etc...:) Just a thought;)

This is not correct at all. The compression used to fit movies onto blu-ray disc is much higher than DVD. The video is also at a higher resolution: 1920x1080 versus 720x480. This results in 6x the screen area of DVD movie. If you are watching on a 40+ inch screen you can clearly see the difference.

Between summer 2007 and the Holidays expect the cost of blu-ray to drop sharply as the mass market starts buying.

Thats the maximum resolutions they can hold. It does not mean the videos are encoded at that.

It will take atleast 1-2 years once people start buying them for the costs to drop. This was the case with VHS and CD and even DVD. And right now I can't even find a Blu-Ray player for under $700 and a HD and Blu-Ray player are in the $1000 area. So as of now I don't know anyone except for a PS3 people who have a Blu-Ray player.. Mainly because people are waiting to see which one wins. Having two optical formats is usless.

And even if Blu-Ray does win.. There is another about 50 other formats currently being worked on.. And those all hold over 3TB's +.. And those would easily take over Blu-Ray... This is going to be intresting :)

If PS3 and xbox 360 were being sold at the same price, I would still choose the xbox 360.

Mostly because of xbox live. Whenever you are bored of a game, you can never get bored playing it on xbox live.

in europe , the ps3 is not encountring a big success , especially with the expensive price and the existence of respected competitors ( Wii and xbox360 )

Back to the OP. If you are not a big gamer, both PS3 and Xbox 360 are a waste of money for you. I have been a serious gamer for years, but I can't justify spending that kind of money for a game system. The Wii is much more reasonable but the games are not interesting to me...maybe my kids. I'll wait until the prices drop.

On the other hand I am a big movie and HD fan. $400-500USD for a player is in my comfort zone. For me a ps3 is a great 2-for-1 (games and Blu-ray) deal.

I am still sticking with my PS2 until enough games are released to warrant buying a PS3.

Personally the PS3 is great, i happen to own one. My neighbor has the 360 and personally, i prefer the PS3 i find it easier to navigate, and its quite handy. I like the graphics on it a bit better than the 360's to. The gaming part of it is awesome, very realistic at time and it has some great games for it, me and my friend recently beat the cooperative campaign on Resistance:Fall of Man. It's a great game thats so much fun to play and is very addicting lol. I find it quite cool that the PS3 is like a three in one, as its a game system, somewhat a computer, with the internet browser and such, and its also got the blu-ray. In my opinion the PS3 is easily worth the money, and I'm glad i have it. And to me, it doesn't look at all like the Xbox's. It's a great buy, at least that's my opinion.

I do prefer PS over XBox anytime. My preference though atm is the WII

Btw Fonzie I know Gamestop/EBGames is running a special. If you trade in your PS2 and 2 original PS controllers + 1 PS2 memory card they will knock off $100 off the PS3(the $599 deal/so it will make it $499 instead) I believe it is on the bigger HD/60 GB. Was just at Gamestop and saw the store ad.

Edit: I just went to both websites to see if they still had it. I didnt see. So you may want to call your local stores to see if they are running the deal still.
