Picking up a name before Pending Delete

Hey everyone,

I have a quick question. I'm finding a lot of domains which I like and are aged, but they're pending delete. I want to pick them up and retain the creation date but obviously I can't once they're pending deletion.

I don't think these domains ever went in to a pre-release auction with any of the sites like snapnames, namejet, etc. I'm wondering, how could I have found these domains before they went in to pending delete and is there any way for me to snatch them up beforehand, if none of the big sites list them in a pre-release auction?

Thanks

I think it's going to be a huge undertaking to identify dropping domains which haven't been through the pre-release process. You might be able to do this on a random basis. But I'm not aware of any public tools to identify these domains. But I presume it would be possible to identify the registrars which don't pass their dropping domains to the auction houses for pre-release domains. Heck. I even saw a thread on NP's within the last few days listing up to about 10 registrars. IIRC.

The only way to grab these domains is by doing deals with the original owners who still have rights to the domains before they go into Pending Delete. I see this mostly as a futile exercise, since mostly the domain owners have already written these domains off. So there enthusiasm for them to go thru the renewal process for little reward, is probably not going to be great. You also run the risk of alerting them that the domain might, in fact, be valuable. When they might just renew it for themselves.

IMHO

You technically don't have to purchase them before they're pending deletion and having to pay the renewal invoice yourself. A nifty trick would just be to spy on the domains in question you want and register them as fast as possible, pending deletion process is 5 days, so do keep a nice Whois in check in any case (:

I appreciate the response! I suppose, the problem is, finding these domains is like finding a needle in a haystack...without tools like freshdrop and sites like namejet/snapnames, I wouldn't even be able to find these attractive names to begin with. Of course, unless there was some method of knowing ahead of time.

Great point about reaching out to them but like you said, if they have forgotten about the name, you're just reminding them to renew it. If they're aware and letting it expire, your inquire alone shows interest and he/she would probably change their mind and decide to keep it and hold on to it longer. Seems like a lose-lose situation!

I've entered a few auctions this week which are in pre-release stage and my gosh, I'm competing with 50-90 people. I had no idea these many people would attend the auction...they're not super premium names or anything. What kills me is why these guys keep jacking up the bid prices 2-3 days before it ends, makes no logical sense.

This isn't my concern though. I want to keep the original registration/creation date. Picking it up after it expires, along with having third party companies grab the name while it's in a pending delete state will reset it to 2017.

@dannyddn1,

if domain at auction (namejet, dropcatch) - they using BACKORDER services. $10 dollars + $35 for domain and you have beatifull name.

only buy from last owner. its easy. if domain at parking, contact from whois-email
