Is NameJet's pending delete text files fairly comprehensive of the the pending delete universe?

Is trolling the pending delete list worth while? I made some simple filters in python to filter out what I think is garbage. I could get a lot more complicated with word lists and python's NLTK (Natural Language Tool Kit) . Just not sure if it's worth the effort.

Hardly IMO. Anything half-decent will be snapped up by somebody but from time to time, nice domains can slip through the crack. Especially some types of brandables that evade the analytitical capabilities of automated filtering tools.
You'd rather trawl the prerelease lists. But it's the same problem, competition for the good domains. Again, some nice domains can go unnoticed. Sometimes.

It's not work if it's automated :)

Look at it another way. If you come up with a nice tool there are plenty of people who will pay you $10-$100 for the privilege of your tools.

Bear in mind there are services that already exist that throw in additional characteristics (registered in other TLDS, CPC, Search Volume etc).

I believe that trolling the Pending Delete list is not worthwhile. Most of the best domains have gone by the time the Pre-Release domains are picked thru. The rest is mostly not as good quality. But Andrew Reberry appears to be making a business out of trolling the Pending Delete lists. So you are competing with the likes of him, SnapNames/NameJet/NameCatch/Pheenix and quite a few others. So Your chances of catching a gem are slim-to-none. I have picked up some domains that have actually dropped at Pheenix, preferring to pay them the $18.95 rather than to go thru the registration process manually. But I would say these were domains I liked, and unlikely to sell over $1k, probably much less. Still a good ROI, if I can rinse and repeat. Which I haven't managed to do. I echo sdsinc's comments, it's more worthwhile going through the Pre-Release lists, but competition is much tougher even than the Pending Deletes for any good domains. In both cases sometimes something falls through the cracks, but not very often. Just remember, domains have to fall thru the Pre-Release cracks before they fall through the Pending Delete cracks.

Code doesn't give a monkey's whether the list is pending delete, pre-release, or built from scratch. :)

But how many domains get picked up when in Pre-Release and never make it to Pending Delete? Which was my point. I bet they weren't the worst domains, on average.
