PhBB3 or SMF?

PhBB3 or SMF? Of the two which would be best for a simple gaming clan site. I only need a few mods and i don't the have extra money to spend so VB and IPB are out of the question. The mods i need are a points system a decent gallery and arcade would be nice.

Go with SMF it is easier to work with lots of mods for it and themes and not as complicated as phpbb3.

Thanks, i'll have to go see what all they for SMF. I've been looking at Phbb3 stuff mostly.

You know, usually I would suggest SMF if you're comparing it against phpBB3... but, at the moment, I wouldn't. SMF is having a big problem with management vs. developers & the community.

If you're open to software other than those two, I'd highly recommend MyBB ( MyBB - Free PHP and MySQL Forum Software ).

Wow, thanks for the info. I guess i have a few more options than i thought. Is mybb close to smf or phbb in the way you work with it. is there much of a leaning curve i guess

Go with SMF. It uses less resources, it ain't that pumped up with lots of useless things.

You will find a lot of plugins for it, but you said you don't need many...

Also, I think it's the most securest board platform that I've used for more then half a year, so far

I have used both phpBB and SMF, for my sites, phpBB3 has a slight learning curve compared to SMF, but in the long run, you will find it was a good choice.

I have tested both, and I seem to find SMF better and nicer.
But, as Eric suggested, I think Mybb is better (it is kinda like a free vbulletin)
