Well, I really don't think the name "Petrol" goes with the extension. I'm in Canada, and in North America we just call it gas. Now, if you had gasprices.us, you might be on to something. The only way I can see ths being of any use is if someone in the UK was looking for gas prices in the US. I'm not really sure on value, maybe just above reg fee.

I'm afraid that I'm with midnight on this one. No one in the .us calls it petrol - it's gas. I'd even wager that a relatively high percentage of the US population wouldn't even know what you're talking about. It's just another semantic variance between the US and UK.

Normally I'd say the ext doesn't matter much with good keywords but I agree.. petrol isn't used in the US. We use "gasoline".. low xx - mid xx at best IMO.

Yep. As everyone already said, "petrol" isn't used in the US. You'll have a tough time selling this domain name.

What's up with you? Had a bad day or something?

When did I say it was worth millions?

In just about any gTLD extension, it might be worth something. Since the US terms used are Gas, Gasoline, and Fuel, I don't see much value on the US extension. I have to agree, it's probably less than $50, and would only be a type-in for visitors from the UK.

This is one of those cases where different dialects of English can make a big difference on a ccTLD.

Agreed that petrol may not be used by the average american but still..."Petrol Prices" in quotes in google does come up with 1.3 million results which isn't too bad! When I tried "petrol prices" +california in quotes I still got a huge number in google....so maybe the average person in the us doesn't call it petrol but still the two word combination has potential...I mean I live in Canada and tonight I filled up my car at "Petro Canada" which is a popular Canadian gas station. I think the domain name is worth more than people may be giving it credit for...in my books when the two words that make up a domain can be placed in quotes into google and return a high number of results that shows that there is potential...perhaps not for the name alone...but it could be developed easily into a traffic catching site depending on the creativity of the buyer!

Good Luck!

Maybe, but even if a UK resident searched google and got a high rank on the domain, would they trust the source with a .us TLD? Would they think the prices were in the US or in the UK? Odds are, the person finding it in a search would be from the UK, not the us. I know when I'm looking for local specific information, I generally ignore results from distant ccTLD countries is irrelleveant without even clicking the link. If I was searching "gas prices" and a google link to gasprices.de came up, I would assume it contained prices in Germany, not the US, and would likely ignore it. ccTLD's have the unique ability to make you think geographically, unlike gTLD's.

AdoptableDomains:

Yeah...I hear ya! :)

As a new user I'm just trying to start my first postings here on this forum by trying to look on the bright side of things...be postive on my first few posts :)

...but yeah...you make a very very good point...when I check the google results it seems like a highly competitive type of field and I would be like you and watch carefully the extension of the domain name before visiting.

In all honesty...I wouldn't click on a .us domain unless my cats life depended on it.
