So the much waited talked about Penguin Update is officially out.

Google's algorithms rely on more than 200 unique signals or "clues" that make it possible to surface what you might be looking for. These signals include things like the specific words that appear on websites, the freshness of content, your region and PageRank. One specific signal of the algorithms is called Penguin, which was first launched in 2012 and today has an update.

Actually, if it's part of the core algo, you shouldn't have to wait (2 years) for a refresh to recover from it ..we'll see how that plays out in practice!

It's also no longer sitewide - that's even better news...

“We look at the webmaster’s page and devalue incoming spam as we recrawl and reindex the particular page. So it’s the webmaster’s page that we’re taking about, not the spammy site.”

So a page’s rankings will be reevaluated every time Google recrawls the page, and the impact of any incoming links – and spam – will be adjusted immediately.
