I have seen a lot of criticism of Paypal recently and have refused business from Paypal. However, I have ~$20,000 in sales with Paypal to hundreds of customers through a variety of different selling formats. It is still my favourite form of payment from trusted international buyers for the convenience factor.

I put a survey on Paypal to get opinions.

Also comments on what defines a good reputation for a domainer to trade is encouraged.

I tend to think that have had a trader rating 10 or greater for longer than 3 months is good. I will also accept lower trader ratings for people who I have got to know through observing and/or participating in discussions with.

I just voted "always" :D I have also been with paypal from long time and sometimes I do have problems but then it is not paypal's own problem but the other party is creating some.

Its fast easy and sometimes smooth :)

I think that I may have misworded the question.

I meant to ask:

When do you trust domainers when you sell through Paypal?

I will PM a mod to adjust.

Tough Poll.
I have used PayPal for 5+ years now.
Verified and have had over 1000 transactions,
w/minimal problems.
It Is SO convenient.
It seems to be the Industry Standard.
Almost everyone has a PayPal account,
because of Ebay.

I feel like even $50.00 means alot to me,
so I would be skeptical of anyone new w/out
too high of a trader rating.
I dont know how to vote,
On one hand I want to trust everyone....
But on the other, I value my $ too much.
I guess I'll vote $50.00 + good reputation.
Once you get too much higher, I start to get
skeptical unless I know you.
We do need a couple more safeguards for us all,
as sellers.
It does seem PayPal protects the buyer,
until he is proven guilty with alot of emails,
phone calls, and just too much B.S.
I agree with your last paragraph...

"I tend to think that have had a trader rating 10 or greater for longer than 3 months is good. I will also accept lower trader ratings for people who I have got to know through observing and/or participating in discussions with."

I vote $50.00 + good rep!

Well I have done 1000+ and 2500+ transactions in paypal with unverified buyers and sellers. I have seen my part of chargebacks :D But then for me paypal or any money is free and I don't repent much on it.

Just had 1100 USD transaction with a newbie. :( But I am believing more in Luck then the logic.

I use paypal almost on a daily basis. Although if it is a domain that is being bought over $500 i do prefer an escrow service just for security. This applies to anyone i deal with. No matter if i have had 10 smooth transactions in the past with them.

Sheesh, in my experience, I have never had a problem with it, although I have heard of people that have. 99 times out of 100, it tends to be user error that causes the problem.

As long as you understand these things, you will be fine.

1) It will cost you money to use the service. 1-3 percent for people receiving money.
2) If you want to withdraw to your own account, it can take 1 day, and up to 7. Get a paypal debit card, it makes life much easier.
3) If someone challenges a charge against you, they are typically either a) a person who lost their lives to identity theft, or b) someone who just scammed you.

Aside from that, I have never had a problem as long as I am honest and careful.

I don't really look for those TR ratings. I get them do the transactions and if any issues arises there is always a charge back option.

I have had one charge back over 3 years. Which is not much but it made me think because the way paypal dealt with the case by just taking the money from my acount is not really right. I think they are unable to offer a safe service and should not be allowed to do business until they find a way to offer it. Any sum of money is important...and I dont really trust paypal

I haven't done any big sales but I would say up to $500 would be the max I'd do with Paypal

nowadays with so many chargebacks i am really reluctand to use paypal unless wif a member for more than 5 trader rating or 10 just to be safe.but eventhough so its not 100% safe but just take the risk n trust the person u are dealing with..

PayPal has always been reliable for me, but then my PayPal transactions have always been a maximum of about 25% of $20,000!

I've been using PayPal and I haven't had any problem whatsoever. Any transaction below $500 I will use paypal and over $500 in sales I normally use escrow.

I really don't pay attention much in TR feedback since a lot my big sales happened outside the forums.

Great variety of responses for a variety of reasons. Thanks to all who participated in the survey and discussion.

People were hesitant earlier, complaining that Paypal closes accounts if it were huge transactions, etc. Atleast now people can use it with peace of mind.

i use paypal since i am in domaining and i havent had any problem since then

in this pool i vote for <$500 + good reputation considering "good reputation" is a TR 10+ what i think for a sale of $500+ can be a little bit risky

TR is very important but i think time you have been around is as important as your TR, so i might probably use paypal if a member is here since, lets say, 2005 with a TR 5 (total TR, not in the last 12 months)

I have been with PP since 2001 and have never had a problem with them. I have never received a payment of over $500 though...I have used Escrow in those cases. I voted $500 or less with reputation as lately I have been reading a lot of scam threads which makes me very concerned. Reputation should be a good factor when considering a sale.
