I would like to apply for a patent,but when i go to the united states patent office all i get greeted with is a lambrynth of databases and terms.How do i actually file a patent ?

If you can't figure out the process by reading the documentation at the USPTO site you had better get a lawyer to do it for you.

Yes.

Although why you wouldn't want to file in the UK is a bit of a mystery.

There is nothing at the USPTO that will explain how to draft a patent application, if that's actually what you are looking to do.
