There has been speculation about this for ages. Has the deal really gone ahead or is it just more hot air??

IMO Yahoo has no other choice in order to still stay competitive with Google.

Actually, Yahoo doesn't have to compete with Google. They just need to learn to compete with themselves and they would do fine. I could make 5-10 recommendations to Yahoo and they could double their stock price, but they are all idiots at this point.

The most important one is "Hey Yahoo, there are more than 60 countries in the world, why not make your system open to the entire world like Google and Microsoft do?

I could go on, but I'm waiting for the call any day from Yahoo and I want to be able to charge them for my ideas.

Just because it may be a smart or necessary move doesn't mean they'll make it. For what it's worth...I don't think they could take on Google even if they did merge. It's gone beyond that stage IMO.

The difference between Google and Yahoo at this point is toolbars. Everytime you install some software, Google is trying to install the Google Desktop or Google Toolbar. But when was the last time you saw Yahoo doing this?

That's why I always laugh when I see some of the numbers, Yahoo.com still gets more hits than google.com. But Google has 5-10 times more searches a day. How's that possible? Toolbars.

Damn, I'm giving all of my ideas away.

I will say that the "Yahoo Earnings Down 78%" is a little off. Remember first quarter last year what was going on, remember arbitrage? Nobody compared 1st quarter 2009 to 4th quarter 2008.
