BOT CLICKS and FOR SALE FORM INDEXED

Donny --

Two issues I'd like to get your feedback on:

1. Over the last pay period, as several people on this thread have pointed out, there's been a regular pattern of reversals for bots clicking on links (i.e. 1 visit, 49 clicks etc.). But I've also noticed that my click through rates and EPC on the few domains I have that are consistent earners have fallen quite a bit below normal over the last week. Is it possible that legitimate clicks are being filtered out in the effort to deal with these bot programs?

2. Several weeks ago I used the account tool to add the For Sale form to several hundred domains that were not previously marked for sale with any message at all. Now I'm finding that google has indexed the for sale form page for most of those instead of the home page, and since there is no way to click through to the domain from that form, this has got to be affecting the non-type-in search engine traffic. As a result I've now removed the for sale message from most of my domains. But the question is, is there a way to prevent this? And if not, is there a way to have a link back to the domain on the for sale form? Seems like it might salvage some of the traffic in these cases. Your thoughts?

Thanks.

I haven't tried Parked.com yet, so I applied recently. But then my application was denied. Ho-well, another domainer not worthy enough. When I get a 5-digit sale in the future, I will remember this day: Parked rejected me before!. Haha. Just kidding.

Anyway, guess I'll just stick with NameDrive and SEDO for the meantime, where I'm accepted, while I develop my domains.

Suggestion : RSS

Hi Donny,

I have a suggestion. Why don't you provide RSS input for each domain (can be accessed from "Domain Detail" page). And if a visitor checks the parked name, the news from the RSS will be displayed. It will make the parked name alive. :)

Thanks.

xrvel - Do you mean have an RSS feed on the results page, that will allow people to download the results and possibly click?

zenon - The overall CTR across the board the past week was lower than it has been in the past, but this is because we put some additional bot filtering systems in place that seemed to have currently stopped some of the bots. But the system is designed to only slow/stop bots, not real people. Without saying too much, most of the bot issues are caused by a few people. What they do is write some bot that is supposed to hit their domains, but to hide it they also have the bot hit others domains as well. We have found that if you have a domain that doesn't use the parked.com nameservers, you will never have the issue of getting most of the bots. It will be funny to see them change their formula after they read this.

Send me some examples of domains that are indexed in Google with the for sale page. I don't see why we can't fix that.

Hi Donny,

I mean when a visitor visit a parked domain first, i don't know what it is called, landing or results page.
The page will read RSS from some RSS url (for example RSS from Google News or a RSS from a blog), and display some information (or news) on "content area" on the footer.
Those news are not ads, they are real news.

Because the RSS will be automatically updated, so does the information on the parked page.

The idea is same with the current "content area" that can be customized from "Domain Detail" page.
The difference is the current content management system is a static one, i must update it manually. But RSS will make the update automated.

Donny,

I have noticed the same thing with all my domains as well, all of which had the domain for sale link. I have just now removed that from all my domains. Let's see if our indexing in Google improves, and how long it may take.

I will PM you an example of the Google search results for one of my domains.

Has anyone else noticed a marked reduction in traffic for Parked domains that are marked "Domain For Sale"?

Is there a way to bulk remove for sale links, I have dial up and it takes me forever to make changes in the edit name section?

fatter - On Monday there will be an option to do it. But not today.

If you set each one, one at a time, then there is no easy solution. But if you set each one via the Account Information section, then all you have to do is change it there and it's changed immediately.

And I'm looking at the for sale page issue. Even though it's funny, because in some cases it's actually helping. :)

I just hope that one day, some parking company gives its members the option to completely customize the layout, add content, add traffic monitoring code, RSS feed integration etc. That would be the real revolution in domain parking. I feel that Parked should be the first to take up this daunting endeavor.
