How do you go about getting your page ranked in the popular search engines? What process do you go through? I have submitted the site to several search engines....months ago...and still no se rank. What do I do to get these search engines to recognize the site? Thanks in advance for any info.

First, are you sure that the site is indexed in search engines? If it's, you should start focusing on getting more hits, unique visitors, improve your site contents, and increase backlinks to your site. That should do the trick.

I know this is a dumb ? but what are "backlinks"....told ya I was a newbie. Are back links....links you have on the site to other places or other places you have your site linked on? Thanks for the reply.

Ok I'm verry sorry.. yes backlinks = how many sites link (or has link) to your site.

If by indexed you mean did I submit the site to the search engines, then yes it is indexed. Also as far as back links go, how do you go about finding sites on which to add your site link?

You need to find related websites, and do some type of link exchange. Or pay to these sites for text ads or banners to your site.

One tip -- is to add your site to many web directories on the web. There are free directories, a lot!

for Indexing. No, I don't mean this, I mean that a search engine bot has visited your site and indexed it in the search engine. Example:

To get indexed in Google, the GoogleBot must index your website pages in Google.

Want to know if your site is indexed or not? Go to Google or whatever search engine and type your website URL. If you dont see your url, then your site isn't indexed, therefore no pagerank is updated.

You don't need to do anything on your side. These bots will find your site automatically, and autoindex it in their search engines.
