I own the .com of a up and coming song writer/artist and I'm asking is it ok to make a small mini-site about them? Or is that not a smart idea because of legal trouble?

Personally, I wouldn't put up a mini-site about them. I think that would just make an easier case against you, if they ever decided to try and take the name.

I would suggest you put up a mini-site, without ads, that is about something completely unrelated.

Wait until he/she becomes popular and develop a fan site?

Okay to put up a site with ads, just as long as it has absolutely nothing to do with the artist/music. :imho:

morally i think this is pretty wrong. writers and artists are doing it tough just like domainers.

the legal problems just add another reason not to do it IMO

why don't you email saying you like their work, say you found their name for sale, and would they like it as a gift?

perhaps they'll send you a book or artwork or something for being a nice guy
