Fin, take a look at the footer on there site; OWN is composed of seven verticals, one of which is TV and Film.

I cannot say for sure but it is plausable that Own.tv rolls out at a later date as the primary focus is the entire network as a whole at this time.

It is a 301 redirection (Permanently moved). This type of redirection is used when someone wants to index at search engines the first url (www.own.tv) with the content of the second (with .htaccess at unix or modrewrite at windows servers behind the scene).

...all in all good news, indeed, Manos. Positioning the term(extension) .tv instead of .com in the consumers mind is actually a sound marketing move considering the Oprah network IS on TV!

how is it good news?!? i dont see them positioning anything, instead just the opposite - the own.tv simply redirects back to oprah.com.

but whats worse is that millions of dollars worth of publicity and advertising is happening right now and thats where i am not seeing any mention of own.tv whatsoever. exactly how many people are actually going to see all that and then hit the website and notice the little OWN.TV link?! like maybe a hundred?

i'm pretty fed up. all the hype here was that this was going to change the whole .tv dynamic and this aint s***. this just totally blows! think i'll start selling off all my .tv's soon.

Fin - You're not serious about wanting to sell your .tv portfolio in a firesale as your post and sig infers because of OPRAH's usage and positioning of .tv. Sure, her using .tv would be huge and it's still early.. There are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about .tv in 2011!

It is mean they want the starting url to be indexed and not the redirected page

It has been popular with tv shows and networks for a decade, that is where the main usage is.

When I said she was in the lyrics of two popular songs at the moment in the UK (Travie McCoy's Billionaire and Michael Buble's Hollywood IS Dead) then she had real cred.
