Own a .net version of a strongly developed generic .com? And do you receive traffic?

I was wondering how much traffic can trickle in from a developed generic .com domain with a healthy traffic flow when you have the .net version?

What is your experience?
Thanks!

I would not expect a lot of spillover. If it were the other way round (you own the .com of a developed .net/.org) you could maybe get some traffic.
Actually I own a few .com where other major extensions are registered and there is not a lot of traffic. I think the domains in the other extensions are not type-in domains. Either they are bookmarked or people use search engines (google) so they always get the relevant site first. So you don't get a lot of hits. It could work for certain types of domains, for example if you own amnesty.com you may get type-in traffic from people looking for Amnesty International (amnesty.org).

Pretty poor actually but my experience owning two .com's of a couple of strongly developed .orgs is much more positive :)

I didn't see the screenshots you mentioned owntype but I'm sure that domain does well :)

are you saying that the traffic in general for that .COM is minimal, or the specific "lost" traffic is minimal ?

by "lost" I'm thinking of visitors who wanted to open the .ORG but somehow got on your .COM....

and, how to differ those "lost" traffic from the real ones? by exit pages?

darmar, i meant traffic to the .com is minimal, but from what i am reading above, others appear to do better with this combination.

Search "hi5", it's the first or second result.

Thanks Allan!

It's less then i expected but i see a visitor amount in the hundreds, i think the domain needs to have better keywords in place to cater to the visitor so it can yield better revenue as it is reported in the screenshot.

But i do see that the traffic spillover isn't as much even though it's not a generic domain the traffic on the .com is pretty solid.

I get a bit... Squirterz.com is a huge adult website regarding female ejaculation. I own the .net and I do get a bit of traffic.

My advice when you have a situation like this is to get involved in an Affiliate membership if possible and capitalize on that traffic, however minimal. Affiliate Converstion is MUCH higher than PPC Advertising in these cases (Especially with you are making $15 bucks per sign up!)

Best of luck to ya.

First be sure it's really generic and avoid TM problems. I have some .net's of good .com's, and I do get some good traffic. And remember another thing (priceless advice): seo
