.EU domains now only 3,39 euro at www.ovh.fr .

Is this a reliable registrar and trustworthy? Good support? They are ICANN accredited I know...

PS: rep or NP$ welcome for this suggestion :hehe:

OVH is a reliable registrars and I've registered many domain names with them.

If you rent servers from them, you may even get free domains. Website owners shall love ovh.

The down side is that ovh domain registrations are done manually during their business hours. If you pay to register a domain on a friday, the domain may not be registered for you until next monday.

Also, all their legal documents are written in French.

Certain documents are also needed for ownership changes of .EU domains. If you plan to sell your domains, make sure you've read fine prints before you register with ovh.

So I wouldn't suggest anyone who can't read French to register domains with ovh.fr.

The domain I would buy is for own development, not for reselling. Plus, I consider paperworks a plus really, because it makes domain theft a lot harder than in cases where the hacker just needs to crack your account and push the domain. So I love paperworks for ownership changes.

However, are you sure about the paperworks? Because I could not find anything on the OVH website stating that they require paperworks for ownership transfers. Or is the documents required for .EU ownership transfers in general, regardless of the registrar?

I read French fluently, so that is not a problem for me (I am from Belgium and speak both Dutch and French -the national languages- rather fluently)

So you rate OVH.fr a reliable registrar?

OVH is the second largest if not THE largest ICANN Accredited Registrar in France. I've never had any problem with them.

I've never sold ovh domains to others, so can't say for sure if they require paperworks for .EU domains. They have a Changer de propriétaire page

http://www.ovh.com/cgi-bin/procedure/procedureChangeOwner.cgi

However, I think they have different rules for certain ccTLDs, like be, de, eu, fr...Not sure about the details, you may contact ovh for help.

Anyway, if you'd like to buy a domain for your own site, ovh is a good choice. They are a quite large company and have been in the business for 10 years.

As hostingsearch said - they are fairly large in the French market.
Their stats at 01/February/2008 were:
BIONIC 452602 (Biz/Info/Org/Net/Ie/Com)
eu tracked: 30640 [1]

The .eu trade price has been cut by Eurid as the ccTLD is collapsing. And the second landrush anniversary of .eu is coming up so a lot more .eu domains are expected to be dropped than were dropped in April 2007.

Regards...jmcc
[1] Currently tracking approximately 2.4M .eu domains here.

This company is reliable, i have numerous domains registred with them, + now they have a new Reseller option now that might facilitate transfers of domains between 2 OVH account for reselling purposes.

They apparently request not only forms to be filled in for change of ownership, but also a copy of your ID sent by letter (not fax!). Do they ask this for all TLDs they offer?

This really looks great. I don't mind slower transfers, as the majority of domains I buy is for own usage anyway, so I consider regulations like this as a great security measurement.

6 euros is still damn cheap.

Sidenote: seems that the required paperworks and copy of ID for every transfer is not needed for .eu but only for the gTLD's that OVH offers? Is that correct?

the op price only applies if you are in a specific country. I am in UK so have to pay the ovh.co.uk which is 7.18 euros
