Who the hell cares. Why is it that people register a domain, and try to sell it for 5-6 times what they just paid for it. And they try to justify it by saying " well it has 6000 overture results and 3 million google listings"

So? Who cares? None of those 6000 or 3 million results go to the domain itself, so they are worthless. It only mattters if those 6000 results direct to the domain, then its impressive, but other than that, who cares?

its my impression that if a domain has a overturelisting WITH the ext, it means that people type in that domain as an overture serach.

i also belive that many of the internet users today is computer illiterates, and cant separate a search textbox from the adress bar in their browser.

this means that a domain listed in overture with ext will get typein traffic.

this is just a part of the typo discussion of course, if you mean overture listing without ext, its just a measure of popularity..

Yea. If i have the domain www.carstore.com and the ovt doesnt have ext in in it, it wont matter.

well, it could matter. the overture rating is also a popularity rating. its not exact or factual, but it gives a general hint of the internet populations intentions and thoughts.

compare 'casino' with 800k rating and 'gambling' with 500k rating this would tell me that when people want to gamble, they tend to think and search for the term casino insted of gambling. 62% vs 38%..

hm, dont know if i make sense here.. anyway ill blame the language barrier... ;)

yea, but that applies to search terms, not to domain names

yep.

but lets say i wanted to establish a site, then i want a domain that sticks in peoples minds, and that is in the lines of what a average internetuser thinks.

we can probably agree that a domain with high overture rating is better that one without, or?

if we return to your original post i can agree that simply an overture rating isnt a good enough reson to set an outrageous price... but it could be a contributing factor ..

No it doesnt matter.

If there were two domains for sale and you had to take one

www.carstore.com and www.thebestcarstore.com

Car store had 3 million results, but none actually directed to the site.

Thebestcarstore.com had only a few thousand results, but out of those 500 went to the site itself.

Which domain would you take?

both hehe.

if i was out to establish a carstore on net, i would probably get carstore.com.

however this example you put up is a very special case.. so many of the deciding factors have been put out of play. in reality, these domains probably are not avalible, plus carstore.com would probably cost more than tbcs.com so i would have to factor in my budget etc...

All i am saying is if the OVT results arent for the carstore.com exactly or they dont direct to that domain, then they are worthless statistics.

The connection between domain name without extension and OT count is IMO the fact that it is believed to contribute to higher search engine placement to have the targeted keyphrase in the domain name or even have the domain name identical to the targeted keyphrase.
Targeted keyphrases in general are highly popular searches (= high OT count).
