In French there are two words that mean 'original'.
Original can for example mean authentic, non-conformist, or master copy (document). Or original simply, but in a narrower meaning than in English.
'Originel' on the other hand has a biblical connotation. It's often used in this context: le péché originel: the original sin. Originel means something like primeval.
So it's not a great reg really. As a standalone domain it doesn't have a clear use. And it doesn't help that the market for French domains is weak.
