I would say .net is the obvious choice. OR go for local ccTld

Usually people get .com first, .net second, and .org (and other ccTLD and/or gTLD) if desperate or for brand protection.

Some people also reg .net over .com as they like it better or it suits their project for what ever reason. They may later acquire the .com if available.

Actually, with all these gTLD's being released, the namespace is changing and .com's and .net's will drop in value unless you have super premium names/keywords/brandables/etc... going to be interesting to see how the namespace develops in the next 5 years because of the good new gTLD's.

In my idea, .COM is King and other extensions are slaves. If you choose .NET or .ORG, the .COM can effect your business in the future.

.net if your message is strictly commercial. Probably the .net if you're looking to sell, but its a weak 2nd best to the .com.
