What are your thoughts on .online domains?
It's very generic and not as ugly as .xyz for example, so that's a plus - but perhaps a little too long to have any success...
Plus most good names are either unavailable or premium...

I believe .online will rival the most popular domain extensions. Certainly in North America and Europe.

February Biggest Month to Date for Radix, Over 750K Domain Registrations

Domain name registry operator, Radix announced that February 2016 was its biggest month ever in terms of new registrations. Lead by .online, .site, .tech and .pw, Radix saw a record number of 768,683 new registrations in the month.

"The most encouraging aspect of February's performance, was the geographical and product spread. In terms of revenue, we saw a fairly even split between China, North America and Europe. While .online seems to be fast emerging as bestselling new extension in North America and Europe. .site seems to be our best string for China. While it's nice to lead sales charts, our continued focus remains on cultivating high visibility uses cases and acquisition of quality end-users."

Not to be so negative on online, but February 2017 will have huge drop numbers. All those $1 regs don't look so good at $25-$30! If there are little or no sales offers or reports by then, then the drops will be even larger then thought.

Radix better drop those renewal rates or start pushing their premiums out the door to get some developed.
They need to help the aftermarket get some sales somehow or the next batch of gtld will come out and money will flow into those new gtld $1 reg's that are discounted to help boost reg sales data, just like they did with .online, .site, .tech!

If you can reg a new gtld that has come out for $1 or renew your .online for $25, most people will drop .online if they haven't got any offers for them, then just buy 25 new gtld domains for $1 each.

I would and will drop .online if the renewals don't come down and I haven't got any offers on the ones I own. I can't hold the numbers that I have without sales to support them. Specially with crazy renewal fees.

If people get no offers, there are little to no sales, renewal fees are high, new gltds come out at $1, then .online is going to be dropped like a hot rock, even the good ones will get dropped.

If the registries want to play the sell it cheap to get them in the door, then have high renewal fees game, it will come back to bite them in the butt. Specially when they keep coming out will new gtlds.

I believe 2017 numbers for renewals will be terrible. I hope the registry proves me wrong, but with the current pricing and current lows sales data, I think I will be right.

Again, I'm not trying to be negative for .online, that's just the way I see things playing out if things don't change.

You make a good point and I think that renewal fee's shouldn't be more than $10 per domain. I believe lots of the good names will get renewed simply because domainers will just average out their purchases. If Someone bought a .online for $1 this year and then renewed it for $25 in 2017, technically it's a $26 investment over 2 years, or $13 average.

But I'm in the same boat, I can't renew all my .onlines and will have to keep only the better ones unless they do a promotional deal. Heck even if they did $5 per domain, I bet most people would renew at that price.

I think if we all contact Radix and tell them how we feel, maybe we can strike a little worry and fear into them so that they don't decide to play chicken with the domainers. On this forum there's at least 15,000 to 20,000 .onlines and if they lose that renewal revenue just from here alone, that will be an eye opener.

One thing I learned from dealing with board of directors of public companies is that never be afraid to voice your opinion. Sometimes management is delusional and a wake up call can changes things very fast.

I wonder if Radix is setting the renewal prices or if the registrars are? Ive heard the registry pricing is pretty low usually. I will contact GoDaddy and confirm whether DDC applies to .online. I think it does.

I think there are way more than those numbers that have been reg'd by NP members.
At $5 renewal fees, I would still drop a large number if no sales data is there to support them. At $5 I would renew way more then at what the current renewal fees are.

Thank you for the link to Radix!
I just sent them a copy of my post from above and a link to this thread so that they can see what we are talking about, good or bad.

Everyone on here should let them know that they will be on the fence when renewal time comes around and fees are to high, no sales are happening in the aftermarket, and cheaper gltds are on the market or will be on the market soon.

Low aftermarket sales, high renewal fees, low end user support will kill .online or any new gtld!

Radix do you hear us?

Send out your emails to them now. Let them know what you think and how their pricing affects you and how it will affect the registry and .online gtld.

As far as I know with the new gtlds, the registry sets the standard renewal fees and the registrars can add any amount over that. The registry can say to charge a minimum of $10 and the registrar can charge $110 if they want to.

The registry can say to charge at least $1 for renewals if they wanted. What you get charged over that is up to the registrars. That is why domains get moved around to different registrars.
But if the standard pricing coming out from the registry is too high, it doesn't matter what the registrar is going to charge, it will be too high. The registrar can't lower it to help us out.

The registry sets the prices for the "premium" domains within a gtld and the minimum renewal fee to be charged.
If I'm wrong about any of that please inform me otherwise.

.Online goes so well with many searched keywords like "flowers" or '"buy" .online! IMHO it can become a top extension with all of the keyword ideas and development possibilities. I can see startups and tech savvy companies adoping .online.

If I was starting a business online, .online would be my ext. of choice if the .com was out of reach for my budget.

I would like to see a stronger marketing/branding effort by the registry to build up investor confidence and achieve the type of sales we are looking for. There are a few .online sales here and there but until we start seeing companies using it as their main webpage, it will be just another gtld that started out strong.

It's hard to resist the cheap reg. fees right now, but it will be even harder to retain so many domains with the high renewal fees. Only investors with deeper pockets can afford to absorb the opportunity costs associated with holding onto a large amount of domains for few years until they become more valuable.

Of all the gtld's, I really like .online! It can make it through the clouded field of gtlds rolling out. B-)

I will surely drop many if there are no good offers. I bought half of my.online portfolio @ $15 each and should they stick to their current renewal fee, it will surely be good radiance to bad rubbish. Will develop few of them though.

I registered aprox 200 .online names during the 0.88 promo. I will try to sell them within a year. If I dont, I will probably drop 90% of those names if the renewal is too high. I already set the "autorenew" option to "off" in my namecheap account for al my crazy 88 domains. The names I got in August tend to be better, but there I will probably let 30% go if the renewal price isnt pleasant and if sales arent up. So everything depends on a sales lift-off and renewal prices.

In Namebio Electronics.online sale is not mentioned. So need to check both namebio.com and dnpric.es for detailed aftermarket .online sales.

Hi .online domainers,
It is great to see that this extension is still going really well. On my calculations, it should break into the top 8 by August and top 6 by the end of the year. I just have too many now and want to offload some to get my list back down to approximately 50.
In your opinion, where is the best place to sell/list domains as a package: ie, a group of domains. The first group i am looking to offload would be some geo domains that i do not have time to develop or look for end users like the following:

Angkor
Corfu
Cuzco
Easter Island
Fraser Island
Great Wall of China
Ha long bay
Kathmandu
Kuala Lumpur
Manchester City
North Korea
Panama City
Rocky Mountains
Seville
South Australia
South-Korea
Statue of Liberty
Stone Henge
Taj Mahal
Tower of London
Vatican City
Victoria Falls

Any recommendations of the best place to sell these as a group?
Cheers,

Man I thought most of the good stuff was taken but I picked up about 100 pretty good ones. Of those I would say I have about 25-35 gems. Found some major keyword domains that have been over looked. I'm blown away by the gems though. I can't believe you guys didn't get some of these. I even missed them for the last month.

I'll keep looking. Harder to find but they are out there.
