Couldn't they get that domain as TM holder?

I believe it's all creating a buzz in market, to increase the value of new gtld's. and it's done by the registry of themselves

Big money company, taking control of legal U.S. online gambling in states that allow, NJ, NV etc. too...

I remember, before I even had a computer and used web t.v. 888 was around, hmmm.

One of the biggest players in that industry has now bought out another one.. That's allot of money!

I thought Bwin was starting to get into the US gambling stuff.. I know at one time they were allowing NJ residents to signup with them. I wonder if all of that will now be passed over to 888 as well?

Why they wanted to brand themselves using .Party..
As a domainer I would have never thought of registring it..Trademark

bwin probably bought .party as a defensive measure and that's all. bwin.com is established, has been therefore .party should be ignored within this merger.

Is the payment done to registry or someone had a jackpot :)

They would be crazy to pay that to the registry when they could just pay .99 cents from a registrar to get it.

According to The BBC, Online gambling firm 888 said that it is buying Bwin.party Digital Entertainment in a cash and stock deal valued at £898m or $1.4 billion dollars.

Bwin.Party website is BwinParty.com and the company’s name was created long before the new gTLD’s.

Smart purchase by 888. Smart move by .Party to use this big news to their advantage. .Party is capitalizing on the sheer size of this deal and it's reach on the news circuits. This is good marketing imo and good for the GTLD market. Sure the news has nothing to do with the domain itself but on taking hold of licenses and territory but so what. Registries...Get your name out there in front of the public in short time! If you tell them... and keep telling them.... they will come. Or at the very least... know you exist.
