I don't know about what 'u' would do, but personally I'd probably get a .to if the word was a verb as it may match with the extension (e.g. jump.to); otherwise I'd go with .gs- simply because (a) it's cheaper, (b) being a British territory there's a stable government, and (c) .gs is part of CoCCA who run a number of other extensions (so they must be doing something right)

Before you put much money into a name in an obscure extension, check out NameBio.com for past sales. Even with the best keywords it is hard to find buyers for that stuff.

This does not mean that you should not try it, just be aware of what you are getting into.

I wouldn't usually touch those TLD's, but if I had to choose, it would be Tonga (.to), just for the fact that it is a complete word.

I probably should have said this too in my response it is also good advice. I've had some very good keywords in minor extensions such as this, and they are difficult to sell without any development.
Local language keywords in mature extensions will fare much better than most better English keywords in the newer extensions for the smaller island nations.

I wouldn't touch any of those. You have to be way too lucky to get a buyer for such extensions...

To be honest, I don't really agree with what you guys have been saying. If you have the choice of something like house.at or buy-houses-online-now.com I know which one would have more appeal to an enduser. The TLD is brandable after all.

To your above list add 3 .la sales.

I own a few two letter .la and .vc. They cause me more soul-searching than any other part of my holdings. They are nice acronyms with good letters. The .la extension has obvious connection to Los Angeles, one of the world's largest and richest cities.

But each year as I pay to renew I wonder what I am buying. There should be a lot of interest in these domains.

Three reported .la sales in a year and a half.

Between the 4 options you have given I would probably take .tc for a nice keyword maybe I'm a bit bias here because I own website.tc but I really like .gs for domain hacks.

I'd take .vg if you were going to have a "games" site as .vg can stand for Video Game

I'm basically a .com man. Sometimes if it's a really good one word and another TLD but not a cctld I might register the name, but that is not often. Or is it is a great word that goes perfectly with that extension.

Good point. What is/are the keyword(s) that you are looking to register?

thanks xman, htmlindex and GreenGamble for your posts here... it is very important for me your opinions

accentnepal, i didnt put any .la sale because of its policy... they wont allow renewals for 1 letter/number from this year (heres the thread)... although they will do this just one letter/number i cant trust them

websites.tc is a great name; i remeber those great hacks in your sig :)
BTW, there are 1656 words ending with gs

i was thinking about reg/buy or not but ill do that soon (probably today and ill tell you)

after i reg or buy it/them ive got some availables and if you want to know some of them you can PM me and ill send you a little list

rep added (sometimes im not able to add a rep)

EDITED: i reg'd FORUMS.vg... as people say vg stands for video games i think it fits the ext very well, do you agree with me?

thank you all for your attention and help,

FORUMS.vg is a strong keyword. I am surprised it was still available. It goes to show how unexploited the obscure TLDs are -- and the earlier poster is correct, Google does not care what TLD you are on and, IMO, once you are out of .com land (and perhaps their own country ccTLD) all extensions are pretty equal in the public's mind.

I followed the one letter .LA affair (there were two threads, seems like I posted to one of them), and I agree it was a terrible way to treat the domain owners. This business still has a wild west aspect, the theft via UDRP of inc.mobi still worries and angers me and Registerfly showed just how unsound the entire structure is. I expect the .LA registry is not much better or worse than most of them. As always: Diversify!
