Hi all,

we just launched a new service for fellow domainers. :)

http://www.oneclickreg.com - One click domain registrations.

As we are working in the domain industry ourselves and we register a few domains every day we were just tired of filling our forms again and again for a plain and simple domain registration. So we implemented an easy way, heavily using Ajax and script.aculo.us: you register your contact data once, and then buy a domain with one click. After registration, domain contact data can be edited via edit inline.

To round it up
  • you see suggestions for available alternative domains
  • you can buy "premium" domans that are for sale at a higher price through companies like Tucows or Afternic
  • when you are on the go, you can check for domain availability by sending the domain name via SMS to a cell phone number (right now a European number, but if there is demand, we may add a US number), and register via SMS as well. Personally I love this feature and I use it a lot to check for domain availability while not in front of a PC, but I'd really be interested to see if anyone else out there finds it useful.
  • you can add OneClick as search plugin to Firefox or IE7.

The service uses Tucows, who is known to be a fair and friendly registrar. Our price for domain registration is a hopefully quite competitive at $9.99 for com/net/org/info/biz.

We have a special deal for all Namepros members. Sign up using this link - then when you charge your account with $25, you get one domain registration free!

We would love to hear feedback from other domainers, or just see what you think about it. Thanks!

-Tobias

Your idea is good, I was always looking for something like this but this reg fee $9.99 is to high in my opinion.

Thanks for your feedback! We may lower the fee depending on user feedback and success of the offer.

We have also thought about offering registrations at registry cost but charge a small monthly fee for users (say $6.95). What would be your take on that?

Indeed.

Domainers are not likely to pay $9.99 a domain without a serious value-add to the service (Although the 1-click idea is neat); the monthly fee idea would probably work better to get the volume clients you are shooting for. (Me, I'm still content to wade through the ads to stick with what I know - but others...)

Thanks for all that feedback.

While we work on the monthly fee, we have lowered the reg price to $8.88! And the "charge $25, get one free" offer is still in place.

With your initial offer it only costs $6.66 per domain for the 1st 4 domains. Very generous offer to try it out. I'm interested now that your price is more competitive. It might be useful for the occassional dropped domain.

Does it take Paypal?

Also, how much space does it use to buy something? Mobile phone internet plans are not cheap per megabit. If you set up the account with a pc but buy domain with minimal space used on a mobile that could be useful.

Thanks for the kind words, VURG!

Yes, we do accept Paypal there.

I think you are in Europe, no? If so, check this out: You can send "domain.com" (any domain name) via SMS to +49 172 140 4736, and OneClickReg will send a SMS back with the availability of the domain or a mini-Whois. Normal cost of SMS, no special number or anything.

Then, when you are registered with OneClickReg and have activated your cell phone number under the Accounts tab, you can send "register domain.com" via SMS and it will register the domain with your default contact data.

Much better than mobile web, no?

Let me know what you think. :)

In addition to our normal offer (charge $25, get one domain free), I would like to extend ANOTHER offer to all Namepros. Sign up on OneClickReg, send me your feedback via PM, and I will immediately give you credit for one domain registration. This way you can try the full experience without having to charge your account.

Again, thanks for all the valuable feedback!

Hey I love this SMS registering idea. This is something I am hearing for the first time. Btw, how secure is this? I mean do you like ask them to confirm something via SMS or something? Because if this idea really clicks, someone may even mask my number or something and register a few domains :hehe: . Also, how do you charge them for the name? Do you have a paypal agreement or something? This sure is a good idea and if you can advertise an stuff this will definitely be like the next gen of registrations. Also, if this really clicks try opening up the SMS service for the rest of the world. Good luck!

Not in europe (Australia) and so the SMS idea is not practical for me. It's a good idea though.

I quite like it. I recommend other people try using it. It's quite fun buying domains with just a couple of clicks.

Can't work out how to push domains with it.

Hi vatsan,

thanks for your kind words!

Right now, the "register via SMS" feature works like this:
1) You enter your cell phone number after registering your account.
2) You get a password sent via SMS
3) You confirm the password on the website.
4) You can reg domains from this authenticated phone number.

So you are right, if someone spoofs your number, they could register names in your name. However, right now it is only us using this feature, so we didn't pay too much attention to it - requiring your password on every registration is simpe though and we will do that once we see more users.

BTW, you can try if the SMS thing works without registering for OneClickReg.com. Just send a "domain.com" to +49 172 140 4736, and the system will tell you if the domain is available or not.

OneClickReg has prefunding, so you first charge your account via Paypal, and the register away.

You can sign up and PM me your email, and I will fund your account for one domain reg to try out!

VURG, thanks for signing up and recommending the service! We don't support transfers yet, but it's the number two item our upcoming features list!

-Tobias
