GLENDALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 3, 2000--Universal Domains, Inc. (OTCBB:UDCCF), an aggressive player in the buying, selling and registering of internet domain names announced today that it has acquired the marquee' web domain "Olympics.tv."
Following the success of the Sydney 2000 games, declared the "best ever" by International Olympic Committee President Juan Antonio Samaranch, Universal feels the addition of Olympics.tv as a timely and valuable asset for the company.
"We are very fortunate to have added such a valuable piece of e- realestate to our domain portfolio." states Alan Brown, President of Universal. He adds, "Having the highest profile domain names available for auction, lease or sale compliments our registration, appraisal, brokering, and domain advertising business."
Universal expects many of the IOC licensed companies, many included in the Fortune 500, to express interest in Olympics.tv to establish their internet presence prior to the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah and even more significant, the return to the Olympics birthplace, the 2004 games in Athens, Greece.
As an example of the major impact the Olympic games have on International Commerce, the Olympic movement will generate about $3.6 billion in revenue between 1997 and 2000. The Olympics are viewed on televisions around the world. NBC will pay the IOC $3.5 billion for the rights to the Olympic games from Sydney 2000 to the 2008 games.
The most recent statistics available as compiled by PC Data Online for the week ended September 23, 2000 show NBC Olympics.com hitting #5 on the top 10 News and Media sites reaching approximately 3.7% of the U.S. home internet population. Olympics.com came in at #7 on the top 10 reaching approximately 2.6% of the home online population.
Universal plans to acquire more of the .tv domain suffixes in the future. The company feels there is a widely established market for the highly recognizable .tv domains, giving companies instant visibility on the web.
Dot tv, Dot cc, Dot ws all work worldwide with the same functionality as dot com or dot net. The highly congested dot com real estate, with much of the useable names already registered, has created excellent opportunities for businesses and individuals to register their own domain names using the newer dot tv, dot cc, dot ws among others available through Universal Domains.cc.
