Older appraisal - Still valid?

I am interested in purchasing a domain that has an appraisal dated 6/2007 for $8000. Would this domain still be worth $8000 today, or is this appraisal completely void since the market has changed?

estibot says the domain is worth $4,100, which I plan on paying slightly less.

The question is, why are they willing to take half, only 2 years later?

And don't forget that, based on yesterdays TRAFFIC auction, .com's and .nets price seem to have dropped a lot too!

This is a down market, and (unfortunately?) you probably can offer an even lower offer than you intend to. If estibot says $4k, and you're buying wholesale, I don't think starting offers in the mid to high teens is a bad start. Depending on the name of course!

The value was actually my point, and the validity of the original appraisal
for $8,000 - was it worth it then? Is it worth it now?
Putting up half in these tough times, can it be re-cooped? (should be his questions)

Not knowing the domain makes it even harder...

A domain appraisal is almost worthless. Domains can be valued differently by different people or companies. I imagine this is what your thinking:

Appraisal = $8000
Acquisition Price = $4000

If you resale at "Appraisal" price, you'll profit $4000.

Doesnt work that way. You cannot expect to resell that domain name for $8000. Your banking on the fact that the appraisal represents a liquid value (which it doesnt). Very few domains can be measured with liquid values. Not every domain can be sold at any given time - You need the interest of another buyer - and since Domains are unique, you need the "right" buyer to agree on your own valuation.

The appraisal was completely void two seconds after it was issued. Domain appraisals are a scam. I don't care who you are getting them from, paid or automated. It is impossible to appraise a domain to a degree of accuracy that is worth paying for.

And most appraisal places come back with a high figure just to get you pumped up about selling at their site. That's why you never, ever see a paid appraisal for a low figure like $10 even if the domain deserved it.

I would like to know the domain name, i think the appraisal is too old and you must get domain appraised again IMO, if you want to know real value of it.
