Ok, so i backed up all my files to my external hard drive before i reformatted my computer. I backed them up and checked "encrypt contents to secure data." Now that i am done reformatting i cannot access these files because it thinks that a different user set the permissions.

Any way around this? Every thing i have is on this hard drive... everything!

Please help!

Have you tried making a user with the same name?

If the user namechange doesnt work you can try
a recovery program like Easy Recovery Pro by Ontrack.

I use it all the time on customers failed HDD's and
the recovery rate is about 97-99% of files.
Depending on the encrypt programs algo I can
use ERP and it has never failed.

Good luck.

Peace,
Cyberian

yeah i did the username thing... named my new partition the same as the last and then created the same username, but it still needs the key. I will try a recovery program.
