Offer to a major company -- What should I ask for?

I've made mny mistakes in my domain-life so I'm gonna ask you all about this, so I'll opefully avoid another letdown.

I registered OzzyMail.com & .net shortly after they expire. I had full intention to make the domains into email websites, for Ozzy Osbourne fans. Because the idea died (and let's face it-I need the cash), I'm thinkin of selling them.

If I sold them on a forum/eBay, they might go for $50 or less. That's how these forums usually work. So I've been thinking: Why not try to sell them to the owner of Ozzy.com?

Email is among the most used features on the Net (it might be #1). As well, Ozzy Osbourne-whether you like him or not-is the biggest name ever in he history of metal (the same can be said about Black Sabbath, the band he formed in 1970). Ozzy has a new album in the works and thanks to the TV show, he's a household name.

So what I'm wondering is: How much should I ask for? First impressions count, thus, I don't want to offer something large that might turn a buyer away. I also don't want to give a lowball offer that might lose me a possible large sum of money. I've never attempted to sell to a business, and I don't know what I should ask for, realistically. Could anyone give me an idea of an actual figure? (Actual figure: $5,000 instead of mid $xxxx) I plan to sell both names. Anyone have an idea? Thanks to you all in advance. :)

Mods: This thread is not asking for an appraisal. Please do not move.

Pardon the typos-I never went back to revise this :)

Did someone make an inquiry or are you going to try and sell it to someone? If someone did show some interest have them set the price and allow them to max out their budget on their own. Just explain to them you have/had plans for development. You would consider selling if the price is tempting enough otherwise you will keep and continue with your plans.

If you are approaching the buyer don't expect to get top dollar. When doing this you are giving them the edge in the negotiation. Why? because 90% of the time their first response is going to be "We aren't really looking for any other names but whats your price?"

As far as what you should sell for.. Well, thats up to you.

Yes, I plan to approach a company. I know that $5,000+ might be unreasonable and I don't expect it. But I need at least $100 at the moment plus more in savings for other projects.

The thing I was thinking of was: Ozzy.com once said that it was wanting to allow ppl to sign up for email with their domain. I figured that otherwise they could use OzzyMail.com instead, because it could get confusing if ppl use the ozzy.com address for fraud, claiming to be a part of the website (a username block can't stop it all), or they could use OzzyMail.com to host the service (ie ppl could access the ozzy.com email signup page, homepage, etc. with www.ozzymail.com ).

I'm not looking for like, $10,000 (but of course I wouldn't say no t it) but if I could get at least $1,000-2,000 or so from the pair, it might be well worth it. I was just hoping to hear some comments on this before I send my letter to them. I'm used to messing things up :(

i dont see the name as valuable to many, and really, if they did decide to do free email (which at this stage is very played out) the ozzy.com name would be the smarter choice for them to use. i understand what you're getting at about the fraud issue, but for the sake of branding, using the main domain works best as evident with yahoo.com.

however, perhaps a fan site might find more interest in this name (with the $50-100 price being more appropriate). just my 2 cents.

Good points.

I agree that the names aren't, say, $xx,xxx caliber. They're nowhere near it. But perhaps it could help link to the Ozzy Mail subsection of their site. RegFly uses whofly.com as a shortcut for their whois engine. I'm thinking if not for email itself, it might be good for a forward or something similar. mail.ozzy.com doesn't look bad but IMO, www.OzzyMail.com just looks more feasible.

If they used it as a forward only, they might not be too interested in paying $2,500 or so for the pair. But it looks more professional and it's easier to remember, I think.

I would consider selling these to an enduser if I could get a decent offer for them (early $xxx or higher). The company might pay more but I'm in no real desire for these anymore.

So let me get this straight....you going to email ozzy.com saying do you want to buy the domain for $100?

lol Of course not. Such a curt email wouldn't get many replies, if any at all :)

I guess I should have said "anyone" not "end user"
