Odd parking sponsors

Background: I'm new to domaining. And website building type stuff. And SEO. etc

Story:
So I hand regged a decent .com (trust me, it's cool) very relevant to the internet service provision sector.
I have no idea what to do with it (or how to do it for that matter), so I parked it with Sedo.

Everything is set to automatic. (I'll add a master keyword at the very least I think).

The curious thing to me, (not you lot perhaps), is though the 'Related Searches' seem roughly relevant the 'Sponsored listings' seem, well, absurd.

Currently the Sponsors are 2 Job Search sites, 2 websurveycentral sites (anti-wrinkle; photoshop fails), and a dodgy looking 'You Are a Winner' link.

The Question/s:
Why are the sponsored listings so irrelevant to the domain name? Do people actually click entirely irrelevant links? Do the sponsored listings improve over time?

you can disable sponsored listings if you want

Hey there biggie. Thank you for the prompt reply.

Are the sponsored listings the preferred targets in PPC? Will the site get penalized somehow if they are disabled?

Hi fuzzy

disregard first post.

the sponsored listings at sedo are supposed to be related to your domains keyword

the "related links" you can disable or you can add in your own keywords manually.

Thanks for the update biggie.

I guess I just move the domain to a different parking provider. Or perhaps cease parking it altogether.

Its a two word domain that declares what it is about quite clearly. And attracts the full gamut of (precisely relevant) advertising links on Google search even when the two words are typed into search without separation.

I'm baffled.

Edited to add: It's zero-click at the moment. Maybe that's a good thing? (I understand that I can have zero-click disabled should I choose to).

(trust me, it's cool)

1- I have a hard time to trust you on that
2- irrelevant related searches tell you sedo has no clue what you domain is about
3- see 1

Hey there Frank.

Sedo probably do know what my name is about - the 'Related Searches' are quite relevant. The competition for the traffic is massive though so maybe Sedo figures the domain is better off trying to catch the less competitive clicks.

It's certainly not the best name in it's sector but I don't have the xx,xxx+ to buy those that are (assuming they ever came on to the market).

It way well be a matter of just letting Sedo make the decisions for me at this stage.

How much traffic are we talking about?

Hello iridium,

Traffic is negligible and the domain is shiny new. No Wayback available. 11 uniques in 2 days at 55% CTR. RPM seems horrid at $1.50 or so. Predominantly Australian traffic. Related search terms revolve around internet service providers and internet plans. Avg monthly searches for the exact (parsed) terms are low, suggested bid for click $9ish.

I entered 10 search terms manually, changed my mind and switched back to automatic. The automated search term generator seems to like my manually entered terms and hasn't switched them out.

I hope to make regfee through parking. May have to develop something myself - way outside my skill-set at the moment. There must be a way to find affiliate programs for ISP's out there.

Also considering buying the .au ccTLD version. Which may actually be the better version to monetize.

Edited to add: traffic in the related terms is in the low millions.

fuzzy - I am assuming the domain is set to a 1 click lander. Since you are somewhat new, a 1 click lander is when you pull up the domain for the first time, do you see real ads or just related terms. If you see adds the domain is set to a 1 click lander and those ads are "targeted" to a combination of the domain and your own browsing history. And in most cases lately it's been a lot of browsing history.

If you set the domain to a 2 click lander, then your browsing history ads will disappear.

Another way to verify this, is to open the domain in two or three different browsers and see the difference in the ads. :)

Hey there Donny. Thank you for the information.

It seems the domain is set to a a one click lander - I see a list of related terms and a few real ads. I've tried a few browsers and those I haven't deleted browsing history on do show slightly different ads as you say.

I've read a little on 'once-click vs 2-click' and most punters seem to recommend one-click so I'll leave it as it is I guess.
