Ok, so I get this note from Network Solutions saying that someone has requested that my primary domain be transfered to them. Included was the name of the person requesting the transfer.

Of course, I did not authorize it. The transfer should not go through.

I googled the name of the person NS says requested the transfer, found his email address, and wrote to him and asked, politely, what his intentions are.

He swears up and down that he didn't initiate the transfer. He sounds legit, is a sucessful businessman in his community, I think I believe him.

He did say that he asked NS to register his wife's name (example: debbiejones.com), and her last name is my domain name (example: jones.com).

So what is going on here? Why did NS initiate a transfer request, saying he authorized it, when he didn't? Was this a simple mistake or is NS trying to pull something?

As big a registrar as they are, they'd have to be out of their 8-X to do something like this (that's just my logical mind speaking). Call 'em and find out what's going on.

as legit as they may sound, systems 99% of the time dont try to transfer a name. its either registered and not available or available and purchased.

Yes, perhaps it's just a mistake.

Domain now locked :)

NS emailed (not the transfer confirmation!!), we'll see if they respond.

Thanks,

Chris
