Now I can't transfer out of NameCheap.com for 60 days

A godaddy moment at namecheap.

I hope this is a glitch, I'll try again on Monday. If not a glitch, this sucks.

I have names due for renewal first week of January and I go to get the authorization codes and get this message, "Registry rules state that a domain can't be transferred within 60 days of registration. Please wait for 60 days and try again. We apologize for the inconvenience."

Some of these names are five years old and older.

I was always able to transfer out, even within ten (10) days of a name having to be renewed.

Well, I'll wait, but they're going to lose several hundred domains I've got with them over the next year. _\|/_

Have you only recently moved the name in to NameCheap?

If you have transfered the name in from another registrar then the 60 days kicks in from that date. That's not NameCheaps rules but ICANNs - Inter registry rules.

No, the names have been there almost a year, now. It's almost time to renew them.

I transferred them to namecheap back then to take advantage of a promo they ran.

(Something like 5.99 or 6.99 with code SWITCH2NC.)

I suppose they a general rules and that does not depend on the domain name registrar in any way.

Its so annoying as I buy most of my domains through namecheap. although end users aren't bothered about it as long as they can have their dns updated.

But every now and then I have an end user who wants to change registrars(why I dont know) and then things can become a big PITA.

Is Godaddy any different?
