Not sure which tld to register...

I have an idea for a site that's mostly information based (as a service)... the .com is taken (though I can use a hyphen! Just checked LOL)! Anyway, should I go with the hyphen or .net/.org or .info? The .info's seem like they might STILL be hard for people to remember, but I'm not really sure if that's a problem anymore (plus, if I screw up.. its only 1.99 currently LOL).

:|

I guess the questions are really: Are .info domains marketable enough yet to use by itself and are hyphens without their counterparts worth developing?

Thanks!!!!

I would take a look at the non-hyphenated form. What website is up on their now? If you could term them competition then you are going to lose traffic to them and you need to find a new domain name. Or you could offer to buy the domain name depending on your finances.

I would stay away from .info's except for excellent keywords and pure traffic development. I like .org and .net depending on the nature of the service you are trying to provide...

Well, the 'other' site is registered and parked so it might be for sale. No development on it. The domain will be for a botanical/phytotherapy database (already created) ++ another will be used for an herbal health database with the same problem. The first isn't so much of a problem, it is only to provide public access to the info but the second, even though THERE ARE TONES of sites dealing with herbal medicine, needs to be capable of supporting itself. More or less, these are public services and the database itself (for the herbs) will be highly searchable and will provide .. what I guess could be described as table links to "health benefits" (anti-inflammatory, respiratory(asthma) and the like).

Sounds like the .org would be most useful?

I hope that made sense... Its almost 3am and just got in from a horrible movie experience lol.

I would go with the .org then in that case. Keep it short and sweet.

I would suggest that you go with .net extension.
.info is only for the websites that provide some kind of information legally, Nothing more...
So i say. go with .net extension or leaving all these you can also go with .co ccTLD.
So my suggestions are :-
.net or .co

.net is a good choice so I think you should choose from .net or .org whatever suits you better, since my friends advise me that .net is sort of "strongest" after .com and then .org

I would argue that .net has a bit of nostalgia and may be dating itself. Not too many people refer to going online as the net anymore, at least not the youth. Then again, .net can be timeless because people will likely continue to say internet for a long time. My only recommendation for .org is that it perceives some credibility. Granted, anyone can register a .org. However with your site it may give off more comfort to the user that they are not being encouraged or pressured to buy anything.
