IEDR (the Irish registry running .ie ) has added porn.ie to its "Forbidden" category with a renewal date of 2107. A few people and businesses have tried to register 'porn.ie' without any success. Today's move by IEDR tends to settle the argument, at least until 2107. :)

IEDR nearly as bad as the EURID, whats the point of banning porn.ie dont see them banning religion.ie church.ie, just shows what a gang of useless backward people they are. Only in Ireland.... wonder if porn.it, yes it does exist and the pope lives there.....sorry porn.vatican most of its customers are most likely priests anyways... :imho:

Rant over....get with the times people.

how can they register porn.ie anyways? if you want an ie domain you need the name as a registered business first, ie if my business is csite Ltd i can register csite.ie and even todo that i have to send them tons of freaking details by fax!

Unless those cyber squatters own porn LLC or porn Ltd they can’t register is anyways.

Technically the pope lives in the Vatican which is a soverign state separate from Italy. :) The .ie ccTLD is a managed ccTLD and therefore the IEDR have to follow the rules. The final say on the matter is that of the Minster (Dialup Dempsey). Not even the Pope could help us with that muppet. :)

IEDR are nowhere near as bad as the muppets in EURid. IEDR has become a lot more cooperative recently. Though I think that a cybersquatting mess and IEDR being subsequently stripped of all policy making decisions in the new legislation may have had a positive effect.

The domain is in the "forbidden" category rather than being registered. It is not actually in the .ie zone. Others in that category include the gTLDs and two letter domains with the exception of ul.ie which was regged before the rule.

Porn LLC would not work because that is a US company format. I think that the Irish companies registration office would refuse to register Porn as a company name. The other method, the Registered Business Name would be likely to have similar problems. Even with a trademark, it could be refused. Such are the trials of a "managed" ccTLD. :)

.US has similar, little-known provisions. Use of certain keywords can lead to problems :o

Probably the same way that mus & ic ltd registered music.eu...just call the company po & rn ltd.

Doesnt matter how they can just the fact that someone with morals wants to inflict there morals on the rest of us....supporter of freedom to do what ever the hell you like...limitations of course lol..but not limitations of a bible basher, what was the arguement.... oh are youth will be corrupted by porn...its a big world....I wouldn`t buy a .ie anyways.... although I own 1 for business`s purposes my PR6 baby lol....might turn it into a porn site now ....when I put that dog to sleep...

That's similar to the way that the cybersquatting/warehousing operation active in .ie used the registered business names to register bebo.ie and others. However the .eu sunrise problem was with the Benelux trademark system. Basically you can register anything as a Benelux trademark without prior checking on rights. Very few, if any of the Benelux trademarks used in the would survive a challenge. Even Marc Ostrofsky used Benelux trademarks to squat .eu domains. The ADR for ask.eu really should be required reading as it shows how utterly corrupted the whole .eu process was. A simple addition of proof of use illustrating prior rights would have solve the whole problem.

Probably. Dialup Dempsey thinks that satellite is the solution for Ireland's broadband problems. I'm up for sending him on a one-way fact finding mission. :)
