This is my first foray into domaining though I didn't buy nineouts with that intention. I actually bought it to use as a poker blog. I've now decided that internet poker is not for me and I've put it up for auction on GoDaddy. I know you shouldn't pay too much attention to their valuations but they have threeouts.com listed for sale at over $3000 and that's nowhere near as good a name as nine outs, which is synonymous with a flush draw in poker terms. I'm thinking it could also be a pretty good name for a poker site in the same way 32 Red is a good name for a casino site. Anyway, I digress. How much do you all think it is worth and do you think it will sell in the auction this week?

ThreeOuts .com is listed for $4,000. That doesn't mean it will sell for that much. Anyone can list anything for any amount so the price listed means nothing (usually). ThreeOuts is a better name because of the baseball angle (3 outs in an inning).

You'd be lucky to get a few hundred out of it retail, maybe 1-2k if you wait long enough. At an auction for investors, probably lucky to get $100. I don't play much poker but I've never heard "nine outs" as being used as some meaningful term. Why not four outs or seven outs?

Anyway, that's just my opinion and I could be wrong.

What @barman wrote is pretty much exactly what I would have said.

I saw you listed it at $250 initial bid. That might be a bit high .. add to that the fact that some people only search for domains starting below a certain number .. so that initial amount might have you losing out on eyeballs. That being said .. I think listing a name like that at auction is only going to get you wholesale pricing .. chances of a real end user finding it are extremely small unless they were already targeting it.

You also have the issue of losing traffic to 9outs.com

I'm curious though .. is there something specific about NINE outs that makes it a known term in Poker? I've never heard of it (as a common saying .. meaning does it has more significance that any other number "____Outs") .. although I'm thinking logic would dictate you're looking for a flush. But if it's just a random thing you came up with then there isn't much value .. but if it's a common poker expression then the domain might have a bit more value.

For example I have "OverPair" and "Over/Pair/Poker" (both in .com). So not only is it a common poker saying .. but it's actually a positive saying (a big factor as nobody wants to open a business on something negative)

Anyhow .. best of luck to you with the domain! :)

Thanks for the advice. I have now reduced the starting bid to $50 based on your advice. Let's see if it goes anywhere!
