There are certain niches and naming categories that are popular.

Geo
Adult
Product
Entertainment
Generic single keyword

Naming categories like
tv.tv
Channel.tv
Ikeyword.tv
FirstName.tv
LL/LLL.tv

Which niches do you like and don't you like ?

Which naming categories do you like and don't like?

Feel free to add others I just picked some of the popular ones most written about.

GoDaddyGoDaddy
I like
GEO
Adult

Single Generic Entertainment Keyword
LL.TV
Only certain powerful keyword Channel.TV

Neutral with rest unless the name is really awful and has no end user/development potential

I like the ones in bold the most. Another great category I love is eco.

An increasingly popular one is ForeignKeyword.tv and with the mix of nationalities on this board I think we are able to check and countercheck many purchases for usefulness.

Also IDNKeyword.TV is extremely popular

My personal favourites however are the good old GEO.tv and TV.com.

The naming category I don't like is Ikeyword.TV as it reminds me of all the many thousands of people who bought ikeyword.com or ekeyword.com in the period between 1998 and 2001 and, in the main, got nil return for their investment.

Returning to the positive, another popular type of name worth purchasing is the LL.tv, which, if handled correctly, can become not just a name but also an extension in its own right.

I agree on the ECO or Green will be big IMO.

I like the I for certain keywords Jimbo, I picked up Ibeauty.tv which I think is excellent, but for development not looking to resell for xxx,xxx

Although Ikeyword.com has had some nice sales Ipets.com $75,000 three weeks ago.

Personal favorite for all niches is Entertainment.

Naming Categories tv.tv was born here so I think those that invested wisely have done ok.

Love First Name.tv and firstnametv.com

And of course LL/LLL

The comment was for personal preference - I could add I also dislike adult names and certainly wouldn't deal in them. I actually bought Knob.tv with an idea of catering for the door handle market!

Reality and preference are different. If you feel a name will sell then go for it!

Note: I owned iReservation.co.uk and simply let it go a couple of months ago because I just didn't want it anymore - and I'd owned it since 2000.

Brain lapse, madness, or boredom! I'll let you decide?

I would have held that name that's a cool name, How prevalent are I names in the uk.
I do not know if the name would sell meaning Ibeauty.tv I love for development. If that is not a memorable name easy to put in the mindset then I am not sure what is and again like you say personal preference it is one of the few .tv I own that I actually love the name.

I think you've hit the nail on the head with the word 'mindset'.

I came onto the board as a developer, not domainer, but, like many here, have been sucked in by the pure enthusiasm and 'game' of getting a 'good' name.

However, even though I play domainer, the reality is that my mindset is still that of a developer. I think about what I think I could create as a site and then buy the appropriate name or names. Rarely do I find the name first and then add the purpose - although when I have done so I have really enjoyed it. Similarly, I don't buy typos or name-taste, or the hundred other sure-fire methods of making money via pure domaining. - I know, for some this must be shameful behaviour!!!

In many ways this sometimes puts me at odds with others on the board as I 'can't see' what they know to be a great name. I CAN sometimes see it has monetary value, but I get befuddled because it seems not to have any practical use as a name.

I can, however, always see a brand in the making. And if others think ikeyword or ekeyword fits their bill for a good brand for their new site, I bow before their wisdom! ebay, ebookers - even ihop (lol) can't be wrong!

I agree with you, have the idea find the domain. Now I do not like I with every keyword but a short top 200 that I could never get the pure generic and know it not developed and may never be I think it worthwhile. And it is a niche I focus on all the other beauty names I own are .com.

I do not do the other stuff Jimbo so I know what you mean. Never tasted, do everything by hand, no scripts sometimes on a computer using a dial up connection.

I like the following

Commerece related products like toners.tv I have.

Keywordtv.tv well ahead of the channel hype last year and my hype last year on channels. Change of tone.

Adult area is huge. 1 in 4 searches for this. Right behind geo if you ask me and in .tv format.

And lastly investment terms like forexbrokers.tv.

Would have loved to own some geo names but to rich for me and I mostly sold off my small cities off. That's not my area of interest.

The thing I learned last few months is don't follow the hype or trend. Invest in things you know, job wise, interests and hobbies.

The e and I terms seemed hot last year. Its brandable but I got rid of mine mostly I believe. Then jazzon.tv and hype. Then everyone was grabbing keyword television.com and .tv format.

I like Adult, Geo & one word Entertainment related .tv's

I dont like
_____Channel.tv
_____Channel+number.tv
Tv.tv unless the word ties in perfectly with 'tv' - For example 'Onlinetv.tv' 'Porntv.tv 'Sporttv.tv'
I'm not to keen on product related .tv's though i like some of the new models to take advantage of them so that may change (Qoof obviously makes great use of product terms)

I like these, maybe in that order, but it depends on the name

Geo / FirstName.tv
Entertainment
Generic single keyword
ForeignKeyword
tv.tv

Just got Invierno and Otono (Winter and Autumn in spanish)

My focus was so product oriented when I first got into .TV, I skipped over Geo, just one of a long list of oversights on my part. So for me, Keyword.tv where keyword is a product. .TV and entertainment go hand in hand. From time to time I get desperate for bucks and entertain thoughts of selling FilmNoir.tv cheap, but thankfully no one has taken me up on that during my weak moments, lol.

I love Channel domains as well. Just seems to integrate well with how the media refers to their television channels in general.

Don't think you can go too wrong with
Geo
Entertainment
Adult

3 really popular "niches" that lend themselves perfectly to the extension.

Also partial to LL.TV as I own HC.TV and think as you mention EQ is easy to brand and easy to get into the mindset of people for either Hard Core or High Class amongst others.
