A nice quote from mobi appears in an article on Goole's entry into mobile space in SF Chronicle. Link http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2007/11/13/BUIITB3SF.DTL&type=business

James pearce (of mtld) quote:

James Pearce, vice president of technology for dotMobi, which maintains mobile Internet domain names, said the new kit should result in some innovative programs. He said Google's entry could spur a lot of interest in mobile development.

"This could be the cork coming off the Champagne bottle," Pearce said. "There is a lot of latent excitement for mobile development. It's been hard to express because the handsets and networks were locked down. Now developers can feel like they're first-class citizens in mobile."

cac14850, are you implying that an association may be forming in people's minds between "mobile Internet" and dotMobi?

Surely some mistake! Or perhaps they have bribed the SF Chronicle to write that? Either that, or this is the first sign of a global media conspiracy!

I think they most certainly bribed the Chronicle to include it. After all they are flush in money given the recent sedo auctions :hehe:

To associate "mobile Internet" with dotMobi, great idea! Common Joes and Janes hardly know the difference.

we all need to latch on to some simple promotable quote like ".mobi = made for mobile" and stick with it - put it in your signatures in other topic forums, put it on all your websites, tattoo it on your forehead.

"Common Joes and Janes hardly know the difference" - this is the one factor that makes or breaks it. THink about it...the "masses" need to know. Of course more content for the masses to use must be ongoing....and obviously it is.

You can't make money from advertising unless you have an audience. The web's money comes from traffic. Its simple. Get the word out that .mobi = made for mobile websites.

IMHO a great slogan is a great idea, and no doubt one will have to emerge from somewhere pretty soon.

We can certainly have a good crack at it here.

I also thought '.mobi = made for mobile' sounded good earlier today, but then realized that in the mind of the average Digg user it may be too easily confused/associated with the universally hated 'Made for Adsense' search engine spam.

Not suggesting we write it off, just highlighting one possible issue with an otherwise good slogan IMHO.

Does anyone have views they care to share on Yelo's idea:

".mobi = works on all phones"

think about the audience - the general public....the ones that made .com valuable...most of them don't even know what adsense is! THe message needs to be clear that it's .mobi websites instead of .com. .org, .net .etc, and that it is made for that little web browser on your phone!

You're right, they are more important than the Digg crowd :)
