Hi everyone, :hi:

I would like to know all your views on this domain name.

NHS.TV

This domain name was a $10,000 renewal fee until March this year.

And we all know what happened then.

The reason I purchased this domain name is for several reasons.

I wanted to make sure that the National Health Service would be able to get this domain.

I believe this domain should only be owned by the British NHS.

You might think to yourself, that because they have the trademark, they would be the only one to be able to use this domain, however, as we know from domain history, this is not always happening.

Some of you might know, that NHS.com is owned by a registrant N4892 Nassau in the Bahamas, (who when I do research on Google, suggests, they have something to do with a hacking organisation)

This domain name sold for $151,300 on 21/2/2006, via Moniker/ DomainSystems.

Another reason I purchased this domain name is because I wanted to give back to the NHS for all the help they have given me over the years.

I believe the Internet is changing, as well as the way people access it.

I suspect that people will access the Internet a lot more from their televisions, and dedicated tablet systems, like the Apple Ipad, more than their actual computer systems.

It is because of this, that I firmly believe in the dot TV extension, however, I also believe a lot of the big companies out there have not cottoned on to the fact that .TV extensions are much more cheaper, than when they originally looked at the extension.

I hope by giving this domain to the NHS, that is if they decide to use it, will promote a lot more publicity for the .TV extension.

Any views as to whether you think the NHS would be wise to use this domain.

Thanks everyone and good luck to all.

I've thought about doing the reverse of this to keep domains out of the wrong hands. I've seen this one a number of times and wondered why the govt couldn't buy it. They're spending BILLIONS on overrated programmers working on their software -what's another few hundred?

Keep me posted on anything that becomes of this.

I tried to register RSPB.org for the RSPB earlier this year but missed out on the NJ auction by 2 minutes :(

Personally I don't see why the NHS would want or need it.

Nice thoughts and I believe you are being sincere - but be careful. People ALWAYS see ulterior motives.

I once bought the name of a particularly nasty illness that I saw was dropping and offered it to the press officer of the national charity for that illness - completely free of charge

They initially thought I was up to tricks (and why wouldn't they? - beware of 'Greeks bearing gifts', etc) which meant I then had to go to considerable lengths to prove my own provenance to GIVE the name away.

Then they accepted my offer.

A few days later the press officer said she had dealt with the person who dealt with the charity's computer system and I should sort out the handing over process with him. We then had a phone call at which point I realised the IT guy was obviously not interested in owning a .TV name and put it to the back of his ToDo list. So far back, it ended up being forgotten altogether- and I eventually dropped it.

After a couple of attempts - I just gave up.

SInce then, and this was quite some time ago, I have seen many names that I know SHOULD belong to, mostly, non-profit or 'nice' organisations - including NHS.tv. I now ignore these completely and I also don't even contact that organisation to let them know the name is available.

I have since met with other non-profits in very different circumstances, and they are mostly forward looking and intelligent orgs, not stuck back in the Eighties, most of which are very keen to include a televisual element to their organisation and quite happy to be using TV.com or .TV names.

Anyone who has ever had cause to use the NHS would want them to have this name and do some good with it - but sometimes, offering it 'on a plate' works counter to how you think it should.

Personally I don't see why the NHS would want or need it.

Snoop - this actually adds very little to the discussion - instead it merely exemplifies the narrowness of your imagination.

I suppose you thought 'NHS Direct' was a bad idea as well?

That's a pity "default", that you missed out on that domain.

"Birds and animals" are very close to my heart and give me a lot of peace when I am stressed. It is a pity the site is one of thousands that just rely on a type in search. Never mind, that is the way of our world.

I am surprised that you do not think the NHS would want the .Tv version Snoop. If that is the case, then I have wasted my money again.

However, I will put up a page saying I have reserved it for them, "when and if they want to use it", just in case they should ever change their mind.

It will be interesting to see how it ranks in google.

I will try and do my best in the SEO field for this.

Keep up the good work everyone.

Regards

BJ

Thanks Jimbo.

I will see what happens.

You are quite right, "people are very suspicious", however, I am very lucky in this area and people tend to see my motives in the right light, therefore I do not think I need to worry about this.

I think the NHS would be rather silly, not to want this domain name, however, time will tell.

I will say, however, if the NHS did not to want this domain name, then, I myself, would be able to use it.

Nails, Hammers, Screws etc. If that's what you call an ulterior motive, then I am afraid I am Guilty, but I promise you, if the NHS want it, "and they should," I will give it to them, no strings attached.

Best wishes to all.

BJ

This is the question the OP asked,

"Any views as to whether you think the NHS would be wise to use this domain."

He did not asked for one sided views in the affirmative. The post above is another examples of your intolerance for views you don't agree with.

its really good to know we can always count on you, snoop!

i actually have to sort of agree with you on this one. but then again i know almost nothing about the nhs, how they operate, what their needs are. maybe nhs.tv could be something good for them but its not obvious to me.

now if you went the extra step, blackjack, and crafted a site about the nhs then that could be a very positive thing. i see the same principal in what jimbo talked about. its not neccesarily practical to belive that any specific charity will be wowed by your gift. they are not always going to be staffed by people who understand the possibilities or capable of doing something about it even if they do. instead create a basic site and promote them. put a forum on it. or even just some basic information, links. start small and use it to practice your skills. thats real giving. no?

Thanks Finster

Hi everyone,

Thanks Finster for all your input.

The reason I bought NHS.TV is because I believe the NHS should have it for Television support for all people who need to use the NHS.

Putting up videos of all sorts of things, such as the inside views of different hospitals, interviews with Doctors, Nurses, patients etc.

In other words a virtual NHS, which hopefully would explain a lot to the public, and help them to feel at ease when they have to go to hospital, etc.

I did not buy this domain, to put up a web site for my own glory etc.

I believe this would not be the right thing to do and should only be allowed, if the NHS were to give their blessing especially when the NHS have the Trademark and rights etc.

I will say, that I would use the domain myself, if the NHS were to decline my offer, and use it as a forwarding site to my NailsHammersScrews domains. That is if the NHS were to allow this.

However, I fully realise the implications of Trademark law, and would only do this with the Marks permission.

The NHS is the flagship of the British Health Service, and I fully respect this, and I am extremely grateful to them, for all the help they have given to me over the last 50 years, as well as all the help they have given to my family as well.

I really do want the NHS to have this domain, as I believe it would be of substantial benefit to them, as well as promoting the .TV extension.

I fully believe in the .TV extension, and will stick my neck out to say, that I believe it will be in the top 3 domain positions, with in the next 10 years.

Thank you for all your input Finster.

Good luck with all your domaining.
