I registered a domain last week (2 words, very good keywords), and quickly put an "under construction/development" page up on it. I added google analytics to the site late last night, and since then have had 6 unique visitors. The site has yet to be indexed by google, so I'm guessing that the traffic is from people keying in the domain.

What should I do with this domain/site? How can I make it profitable? I'm looking for some 'first steps' advice...

Can anybody help?

Thanks!

Hey mate park it at any good domain parking service like Sedo .

Would there be a benefit to finishing the page I started, and adding some google adsense or amazon ads? Do I stand to make more from a good parking site, assuming it is a domain that is frequently searched?

I've picked up a couple more visitors since I posted this, and stand at 8 unique since start of day. I don't think that is horrible considering the page can't yet be found on google, and I haven't advertised it anywhere or told anybody about it...

those "visitors" could be bots,or whois searches

but since you've starting developing, go ahead and finish at least one page with some content and adsense. see if you'll generate some clicks

good luck

If your website is in a niche you like, build it up and add some good affiliate ads. If you think there's a lot of type in traffic, create a few pages of original and quality content and promote a few products/services (with affiliate programs of course).for eg. if it's a web hosting site, sign up for hostgator's affiliate program and use one of their discount ads for an easy sell($50 a sale!). If you don't have time, park it (why park, noomle) as they monetize. Sedo's good for resale. There are so many options :) if you're interested in the affiliate route, pm me and I can send you a free crash course. Its an affiliate course, so of course there are ads, but if you're not interested, the content is good and you don't need to buy anything as long as you already have a domain name. Good luck :)

If you buy a site and park it at sedo or something what is the process like? Do you just wait for it to be picked up knowing that it might never be picked up? Is there different options that are available, sorry this might sound like a silly question I am new to this and am trying to form a understanding.

You can do that, but you may wait a very long time (or forever). There are so many options. I would just set up a word press site with related affiliate ads, write a little content and try to get traffic. For parking, it isn't much good if your keywords aren't good. If there's no type in traffic, its unlikely anyone will even know your site is out there.

You can always park this domain name and earn money.. You can sell the domain, but if is really unique and memorable, it can be very useful for you to earn money.

Thanks for the replies.

I've decided to continue with developing the site with text, pictures, and forums, and *should* be ready to launch by end of month.

You just bought the domain but no idea what to do with it? So why did you buy it? Why did you bought the domain with those keywords in it?

I would suggest to make a blog out of it at first to see if you can manage a site on the net. After that consider making a profit.

I bought it because it is a good domain, and I know it is worth more than just the fee it cost me to hand-reg it.

You can put a blog or a website, do affiliate marketing or you can engaged on some advertising. Sell your own product online!

What's the domain? You can probably get more specific ideas if we can see the name...

You would need to tell us the domain. Otherwise we have to speak in broad generalizations, which would be the fact that only a minuscule percentage of domains cover their renewal fees when parked and little affiliate sites rarely make anything at all.

Thanks for the replies. I thought this thread was closed, as I replied on Aprl 22nd and said that I've decided to develop the domain into a site.

I'm just putting the finishing touches on it now... I don't know that any site is ever 100% finished, but I'm getting close.

The domain is unusualcars.com

It will be a forum (discussion, buy/sell), with a photo gallery and rss news feed. I have yet to even look into affiliates, as I wanted to see what sort of member base I can get before I do any of that.
