The domain in question drops on Monday, 12th April, so quick responses would be much thanked for.

There is a fairly obscure domain that I wanted to backorder, but it has one bid on Namejet, and no bids on Pool and SnapNames.

Now my question is, in the case that I place a bid on Pool and Snapnames, and it is lower than the bid placed on NameJet. Can I still secure the domain? Does the bidding happen again after backordering service secures the name?

Aren't some drop catching/backordering service companies associated with some registrars?

Aside: Can anyone point me to a nice backorder processing article, that introduces the concept, mechanism, difference with registrars, drop catching etc.?

Many thanks.

Its at DomainPeople.com

I personally have'nt heard of them before but IF this article is still correct then snapnames is partnered with them.

Buy Expiring Domains - Domain Name Information (bottom of the page)

Register.com, DirectNic.com, Moniker.com, MyDomain.com, Dotster.com, DotRegister.com, DomainPeople.com, Answerable.com go to SnapNames.com

You really need to check if its already in pending delete or not.

If the domain is already in PENDING DELETE then it WILL NOT go directly to snapnames automatically, whichever drop company manages to snatch it wins it....its a free for all

In this case for the best chance to be in any auction for it is to backorder it at snapnames, pool and namejet.

Thanks Gazzip!

The domain's status is pendingDelete. This is the first thing I had checked too. Whihc would basically mean that the domain wasn't found valuable by the registrar to own itself, and sell later.

Now problem is snapnames+pool don't show the number of bidders, so I guess I'd have to go with the gut feel of how much I think the domain could be sold for later.

This could very well be evil play by the domain backordering companies I feel. Don't disclose anything and then bid against the buyer to jack the price up. :!:

Personally, there is no downside for you to order it at all three. If you order it at snapnames or pool, you could well win it as being the only bidder. But if namejet capture the domain then you are in the auction with one other bidder. I'd recommend you order it at all 3 dropcatchers.

Yes stud, I agree and after understanding that I would be charged only if they are successful in ordering the domain for me.

PS: I was ignorant, pool and snapnames don't show the number of bids. Only Namejet does :(

Pending deletes on Pool & Snpanames don't show how many people have it backordered, which can also be a good thing IMO....if an auction does start at Pool/snapnames you will be able to see how many bidders there are in with you.

Evil play by a backordering company...nah, never :D

..just kidding, there has been evil play very recently but what can you do but.

A) trust/hope they have cleaned up their act
B) Don't get too carried away with how much you bid
C) Don't use them

Good luck
