Is it just me, or does anyone else have a problem with how often people around here seem to change their usernames? Every time I go into chat I feel like I don't know anyone only to find out that I know everyone but their usernames have changed.

Especially now with this paypal scam activity, would management consider changing their new username policy?

I think that this is a good point.
However, the freedom to change usernames is a good idea.
Best thing i can suggest is having a "Username History" page, where all usernames that user has used are displayed.

BTW a good way to find out somebody was is to go through their post history and find when someone has quoted them, this reveals their previous username :)

That seems like an awful lot of work for someone to find out about who they are dealing with. A username history section of the profile could work though. I know a lot of people here like to switch things up sometimes, but on other forums it isn't allowed at all unless there is a very good reason. It seems that when there is a fraud issue it protects the guilty to be able to hide behind a new name, imho.

Some good points...

Username changes have always annoyed me to no end, and I'd agree that a time limit for username changes would be beneficial. I'm curious to see what Management says. :)

Ya, I think a Username history on Profile pages would be great! I've seen these on other forums, but they had a more recent version of vBulletin :p

Not an automatic built in feature. But whenever I do change names manually I make note of it (Only Staff and above can see it).

Sometimes people we use their title to display 'Formerly known as' - Always a good idea.

That works well for honest people, it's the shady deals I'm thinking of here too.

well I think there is nothng wrong in changing the usernames, but just be sure to inform your friends and known ones to inform about it before so that they will know.
