More trash.

Hi Cyberian,

I am writing to inform you X-BlaBlaBla-X.NET is expiring and may be released to the public within the next few days.

There is a good chance that there will be several interested parties attempting to capture this domain when it is released, these will vary from parties with a genuine interest to domain name speculators otherwise known as cyber squatters who often put large price tags on such domains.

We are domain acquisition specialists and I felt that as the owner of X-BlaBlaBla-X.us you would have a much more genuine interest in acquiring X-BlaBlaBla-X.NET.

If you would like us to try and acquire this domain on your behalf then please let me know by 16th December 2006.

This is a genuine service and we do not charge any money upfront. If you receive emails from any other companies claiming to own the domain before 17th December 2006, please do not send them any money.

If you would like our help to acquire the domain for you as it expires then please reply by email or contact me on the numbers below.

Kind Regards

Gary Willicott

He probably offers some expensive backordering service.

I've had similar emails when I've had the .com version of the domain. This guy tastes the domains, sends the email, and then sees if anyone bites. If no one does, he releases the domain back in the wild, minus his $.25 ICANN fee.

If you really want to mess with him, send him an email back on the 17th saying you want the domain, that way he eat the whole registration cost and will not be able to drop the domain for a refund.

This has happend to me and it actually alerted me to the fact that a name I wanted was dropping. This guys e-mail actually did me some good as it simply told me that the name was dropping soon. But it has the potential to trick noobies and make them go with a more expensive backordering system

Hahaha.

Theres 2 things that I find extremely funny about your thread Ken..

1. The sender of that email is NP user "Jooster".
2. Its exactly 1 yr to the day that I created the exact same post about the exact same company.. :)

Maybe its like an annual holidays thing that they do... Jooster "mental note to self, 2nd week in December, send out a trillion spam mails to webmasters..."

Why is this a "bad guy", other than the spam? If he is providing a legitimate service, i.e. drop catching a name, what is so wrong with that? That's the free market at work. Not everyone is a savvy about the internet as most people here.

Like Peaches and Joker mentioned, this service is aimed at less informed users. The main reason I posted it was for newer members to see the different kinds of approaches we deal with on a regular basis, and for the more savvy domainers to have a little laugh.

You know Joker, I was thinking the same thing, till I remembered I never have responded to one of these... perhaps because I post the really amusing or potentialy tricky ones for all to see it looks like I'm gettin bombarded.
And while your out hunting the christmas Badgers, make sure you dont hit our resident "Ol' Brock" Ian by mistake... Be a pity to lose him after all the good work on 1plus and all. :kickass:

Peace,
Cyberian
