NEW RULE (effective Sept 25 2007)
Registrar and Expiry dates are required for each name being sold.

Completely useless imho. If I have a domain or domains up for offers and someone is interested, they can either ask me this information or look it up themselves.

Not that my opinion is going to change the rule, but I will not be posting my domains for sale here anymore due to the fact that this rule forces me to have to login into multiple accounts to get the information beforehand.

End opinion :)

Domain Sellers:

NEW RULE (effective Sept 25 2007)
Registrar and Expiry dates are required for each name being sold.

I like this new rule, IMHO ... having this information as part of the potential "buying decision" has always been an important consideration for me personally (obviously not as high up there as the actual domain name itself, but I have had some bad experiences with some Registrars where, in the end, I might not (or might have if was Enom, for instance) have purchased the domain had I known of some of some issues "unique" to that or those Registrars)! :gl: :imho:

This should not be a huge inconvenience - multiple accounts or otherwise - to the Seller(s) ... to post ALL pertinent information regarding the sale(s), as well.
Just my two sense.

No need to look up different accounts...

No need to check using your accounts.

Just use any whois service. It'll give dates. No need to log into your accounts (I have five different ones-I know its a pain).

As mentioned having an account thats expiring in 10 months time would be a selling feature.

I use excel forms for all that data and more. point, click, copy - paste. Done.

But any buyer should double and triple check everything first anyways. I always check the whois on any domain i buy from someone no matter the price - looking for theft clues if any, domain age, what's being done with it(dns) etc etc.

I enjoy this rule, it makes life easier for the buyer. I purchased a domain a few days, i assumed it expired in a few months, and it expired in like 5 days time...

Well you know what most of us like, Fast and easy things.

I think it'll probably get you more deals in the end by people having to do less work :p

Sorry to hear you don't agree Rob. Why wouldn't a seller post the expiration dates in the first place? My guess is that if you had a lot of domains on multiple accounts across different registrars is that you would keep a master list in a excel file or something similar.

This rules makes it much easier for buyers and staff.

You're willing to give up a potential sale because you don't feel like looking up an expiration date? :red:

To be honest it is vital information I require before any sale.. :)

I think its unneccassary to post this information and a hassle thats all. I agree, as a buyer its nice to see this info. As a seller, its just a pain in the rear "for me" as I have other things to do with my time. Much easier to just say domains for sale, pm for info or price etc if buyer is really interested.

I definitely agree with this new rule. It is not stupid at all.. it's even common sense!

Too many people are often confused and even possibly scammed out of their money, because of these minor, yet major, things.

Without making this a major issue... I just think its very little time spent in maybe making the difference in selling the name and not....

If im selling anything a house, car domain name... i want the buyer to buy and any information i can give to ensure the sale i will... thats just me :)

Registrar in my opinion is definitely not required, or even that important, especially in larger sales, who cares if you need spend an extra $1 for renewal...?

Expiry date however IS an important addition, and I feel this rule is good.

Whats better, you taking 5 minutes to post this information, or 10 potential buyers having to either PM you or find it themselves. Personally my opinion is that if you are too lazy/cant be bothered to list vital information, then maybe you shouldn't be selling your domains ;)

Sorry but its facts...simple clear facts.

Made this for fun, only does .net/.com/.edu for now. But it would be really easy to expand. Derived (vaguely) from Matthew.'s script.

http://mf1.us/domain

Note: I made it for fun, a lot of them don't work due to various glitches, mainly as my reg ex wasn't sophisticated enough.

I am also in favor of this new rule. Leaving out the domain name registrar and renewal date in a domain name sale is like selling a car and not including the year/make/model etc IMHO.

IMHO, it's important on names that are expiring within the next 2 months, or are at registrars that are difficult to deal with. The new rule was to avoid situations we've had complaints about where buyer purchases a name just to find out it's stuck in some awful registrar and expiring next week.

Suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,

RJ

I don't know how others do it but I've never bought a name without looking up the 'whois' info. This gives you more information than just the registrar and the time left on the domain. I always want to know everything I can about the owner/seller before I begin negotiations and especially before I send them any money.

I think the new rule is unnecessary and it does cause an undue burden on the seller. If a potential buyer is interested in a name he or she shouldn't mind at all looking up the whois info....they probably gonna do it anyway.
