Yes, NSI and .de are great in price, but lacking in experience because it's a relatively new offering and a good price. Make sure you don't change the default admin contact (Well, at least as per customer support on one of my many phonecalls), and just keep hounding them about any other changes. My first purchases took almost a month to resolve.

Question: why did u choose NetSol? eNom, DD24 and others have much better reputations. Just wondering.

I'm assuming it's because NetSol had the cheapest price going for .de registrations at the time. I remember seeing a post by somebody (AllanShore or All4Cost I think) which mentioned it.

By the way folks, I just noticed RegisterFly has a new price of only $8.99 for .de registrations, so that should heat up the competition.

$9 for a .DE name is a hot price! The eNom reseller cost is $15.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. At first, I thought it might be a typo, but it's on the RegFly site and also TheFlyPaper specials. As far as I know, the $11.99 at NetSol was already the cheapest around, so this $8.99 deal is pretty darn sweet. :)

It was based purely on price. BTW I'm still very new to this game, I registered my first domain in November and I had never used NetSol before but I can tell you this if you ask me about my experiences with NetSol a year from now I probably won’t have much to say about them because this is almost certainly the first and last time I ever use them. I understand why GoDaddy past by them for the top spot.

Network Solutions preceding dominance in the market seems to have bred contempt for their customers.

Intelligent women are so sexy. I love it when they talk in such a proper way.

OOPS...did I say that out loud? :o :red:

Just the mention of 'Network Solutions' makes me shudder. I've had my share of nightmares with them years ago... and from what I hear from others, they've only gotten worse. They have NO concept of what 'service' means. Their customers are mere account numbers to them. They are extremely difficult to deal with. Did I mention I don't like them? Ha!

Most likely they're having a hard time communicating the lock request to denic
itself, the .de registry. But anything can happen.

Wanna PM me the name/s? I know someone there.

They finally answered my question but it was in response to the Customer Satisfaction Survey I completed concerning this trouble ticket.

Thank you for taking the time to fill out our Customer Satisfaction Survey.
Your survey was forwarded to the Network Solutions Customer Satisfaction team.
A "de" domain name can not be transferred, so you would not need to set up domain protect on this. This is why the Domain Protect option is not on the site.

Earlier today I filled out this survey and explained in detail how each correspondence made it obvious that they were giving me a prepared response to the most commonly asked questions but not really paying much attention to any of my additional comments. It’s not that I believe I’m special in any way; all I wanted was what now seems like a simple question for them answered. I’m glad it finally has been.

It's been brought to my attention that my comment above might be interpreted by some as being "sexist" or "chauvinistic". Let me assure everybody of one thing.....

As soon as I look those words up in the dictionary to find out what they mean, I will respond.

LOL

Just kidding.

Seriously though, I'm sincerely sorry if my comment was improper or made me sound like a male chauvinist pig. That was the farthest thing from my mind, and my intentions were good. It was honestly meant as a real compliment (with a bit of humor). To Kim, please forgive me if it sounded any other way.

I do not consider any thing you wrote to be "sexist" or "chauvinistic" in any way shape or form.

I should've thought of that. But that answer makes sense.

.name domains, if I remember correctly, don't have registrar transfers either.
So it only makes sense that they don't need to be locked since there's no one
to transfer them to.

Sorry to read that you went thru a lot of hooplas, though. :(

Thanks Kim. I'm certainly glad. :)

By the way everybody, before you all rush to RegisterFly to grab your $8.99 .de domains, be aware that the requirements to have a valid address in Germany are still in tact. I figured I would test the system and right before I was about to pay, I got the following message...

.DE Specific Information
Special requirements for registering .DE names

The ADMIN contact of the domain name must reside in GERMANY. You must enter a valid GERMAN address for the admin contact, If you are unable to do so the registration attempt will fail.

Heh...I know what you mean. I've written disparagingly about Netsol in my blog more than once. It was very cathartic. :yell:

Yup, same old Netsol.

Their motto should be, "Network Solutions: For over a decade, proudly screwing up domains and giving customers the worst possible attitude..." Yup, that just about sums it up.
