:hi: guys!

Is .NET ever going to come out on its own (i.e., not be in the shadow of the "almighty" .Com)??
Will people ever "type-in" .NET instead of .COM?
Just curious as to what you guys think the future holds for this (IMHO) Beautiful Extention (PERFECTLY matched to the interNET).

Thanks!

The problem with .net is that it is too often a second choice where the .com is already taken... that's probably why the ext has a poor image.
If you have the very best keywords you will probably have some type-in, for the rest you need some branding effort to boost the ext (if it's your primary name).
IMO .net is very good for everything that is computing/Internet related.
I like .net but I also find that .org is less restrictive - as long as your site is more or less non-profit oriented most keywords will fit nicely.

I believe that .com will continue to grow along with ccTLDs while .net will stagnate. In other words I don't think it's the hottest TLD for investment purposes. It's good to have a few in your portfolio but it would be best to settle for strong, single keywords.

There ARE companies that prefer their .NET website to the .COM, though...that gives hope to .NET! ;)

Some keywords or names, if combined with .Net, make those .Net domains more specifically meaningful, more targeting, and more outstanding.

Its not going to happen my friend, no matter how badly you want it to be, .net will always get pwned by .com. The fact is not gonna change....forever.

Microsoft's new music player Zune uses zune.net for their official website. Zune.com isn't even owned by Microsoft. :)

:) It's not like I'm wishing for this...most of my investments are in fact in .COM, but I was just thinking why such a nice ext as .NET would be second to a "Commercial" ext!?
I guess its what people get used to and that just stays! ;)

Wow! Cool! :) I think Microsoft is one of the few that DOES promote .NET!

I own 25 domain names. 15 .coms , 7 .orgs and 3 .nets. Of those three tlds .net is my least favorite, but it is still much better than all the other newer tlds.

I own a few .net domains. However Among all of the TLD's its not my favorite. I obviously prefer .com, as well as .org and .us

I don't believe that the .net will ever step out of the shadow of the almighty .com.
There are some domains where a .net makes sense, some companies may even use the .net extension to promote. In the end, users are so geared towards .com(s) that they are automatically typing .com as an extension. The only way out of the misery is when users are going through search engines, which puts Google & Co. back in the power position, and with it, you're subject to indexing, keywords and buying adwords.

Overall, .com(s) are still the best investment closely followed by ccTLD(s).

Microsoft has their .NET Framework, so .net makes sense to them as an extension.

As a whole .... I see .net losing ground. In all reality - It is now in the shadow of .org as well IMO ;) .org gets much better recognition in the Search Engines now .... Hands Down.
