i expect .net/org value to deteriorate dramatically over next 2-3 years after .web/online/sport/inc/corp/site and some other viable alternatives hit the market..
actor.net will soon be a $500 domain :)

..seriously

>> Tobias Flaitz, Sedoโ€™s CEO:

โ€œWeโ€™re going to see the market flooded with hundreds of new domain extensions in the coming months and years, and our data shows that investors and corporations are evidently warming up to the idea of using different extensionsโ€ <<

I agree that the value of .net has eroded but it's been a long time.

5 years ago, the reseller market was more buoyant too, but many domains were overpaid and not just in .net. We have seen a number of premium domains selling at a loss.

But Jim Cramer said Bear Stearns was going to be fine and that we should listen to Lenny Dykstra for investing tips....was he wrong?

:talk:

I wouldn't compare what a name sells for in auction on snap, to what it sold for 5 yrs later on flippa

nor would i value or devalue an extension, based on the sale of a single domain name

especially when you don't know the owner/owners or what their financial situation is.

flippa is not even on the same level as snap

imo....

I don't think actor dot net was even worth $20k in the first place. This is domainer pricing. Which means it is a number that can be whatever you want it to be. If you can't get a deal, you just erase the number and put a new number until you find someone who will agree with your number.

I seriously do not think there's a real need for an actor website in the real world. Even if there was, it is clear that no businessman could come up with a financial plan that can raise enough income to defray the cost of acquiring a domain worth $20k or $5k.

Seriously, i'm not sure what kind of income-generating website you can put up on that domain. Let alone actor dot com, is also being held hostaged by a domainer and therefore you have a nextdoor competitor sitting beside you. Movie niches are very saturated nowadays.

Maybe some talent agency can set up shop on that domain. I'm wildly speculating.

Exactly Don, why do we act like its shares in Actor.net and well all can buy or sell them ? One person owns the name, could be going through a divorce, could have lost his job, could have a better opportunity in something offline. Flippa is not an experienced broker like Dave Evanson or Jeff Gabriel that could work on the name. Its a marketplace. How well is he promoting the auction, do Hollywood talent agencies know or the Hollywood press ?

Of course with a ton of alternatives coming .net is going to take a valuation hit, it you can't have the best .COM or your successful Country Code, does it matter what lesser run extension you build your site on ?

IDK, but I have dictionary single word .nets and can't even get offers on them. Definitely worth at the very least a few hundred plus+.. just no offers. Just browsing the forums.. most people I've been seeing don't even bother with anything but the .COM anymore.

Can't complain about .nets. Sold another this week for pretty nice return of almost 2700%, which is cool for backordered dotnet, two weeks old.

Also, I know about a few pretty solid recent sales.

IMO, .net is doing well

I have received offers on, and sold plenty of .NET recently.

You can't extrapolate a trend based on an isolated sale. I don't think Actor.net was really ever worth close to $20k.
There are countless examples of people overpaying and taking major losses in all extensions.

.NET values may be down - but almost everything outside of the .COM is down these days it would seam. Still, you can find killer deals on some .NET domains and the market for .NETs will most likely rebound eventually. If you can get a good .NET at the right price - even if you sell it for a little less your profit will probably still be good!

Can be a wrong question w.r.t thread concerned, but if we don't get .coms what other extensions should be preferred in LLL and English words

Actor.net sold in 2008 for 20,000.

It's 2013, and this guy can't get an offer over 5,000

https://flippa.com/2957120-sold-for...-premium-domain-16-600-000-searches-per-month

Sorry for whoever paid 20k for Actor.net in 2008. It's likely valued at under 1k in today's market what with expected big declines in dot-net values resulting from all the dilution caused by the new extensions.

P.S. Surprising it really sold for 5k in a Negotiated Post Auction, but always possible I am wrong.

Rottentomatoes.com is US rank 290 and look at how "bad" that name is!

I think it all depends on the keyword which makes a domain name profitable or not, either to a reseller or to the end user.

It's pretty much all extensions that are taking hits lately except premium one word dot coms and short domains. Even .com's are selling less than during the dot com boom.

.net is meaningless - literally - compared to other popular extensions like .biz, .info, .me and .org. It means you are on the net - well, duh!

Used to be for ISPs etc, but that use has faded away.

To be honest I actually like the .net extension it makes much more sense than .com but everyone likes .com so that is the way it's going to be.
