Saw this reported on the news earlier today. Unfortunately ISP's cannot be trusted to roll out such things and I assume most are awaiting grants etc to do it.

Look at how long so far companies have taken on implementing IPv6

Talk about net neutrality

Talk about net neutrality. Fear gets the money out of people's pockets...
Generally processing speed of computers is increasing 10x in 10 years, memory capacity is increasing 100x and network bandwidth is increasing x1000 over 10 years as a rule of thumb. The interconnects between the backbones to the last mile could be a bottleneck, but there's Wimax and I hope that soon some grassroot efforts are made to create a free wireless p2p internet alternative as backup for our freedom to communicate, just in case...

I dont know how true this is... There is a ton of extra fiber lying dormant and Google is buying up a lot of this "dark fiber" and will be putting it to good use. As bludex mentioned, with wireless technologies improving, etc.. I dont think it's going to be a major problem.

However, I do think that the major suppliers of broadband are stalling and hiding... We need to deregulate the industry and open the networks up to newcomers like we did with phones. This would create more competition and generate more money for building infrastructure..
